Lions Look for Online NFL Betting Rebound Against Saints

The New Orleans Saints had a rough start to the 2017 online NFL betting season. The Saints kicked off the year by traveling to Minnesota and enduring a 29-19 loss to the Vikings. The following week the Saints would host the New England Patriots. And although the Pats were coming off a loss themselves, the reigning Super Bowl champions still proved too much for New Orleans.
After an 0-2 start, most fans who bet NFL online were writing the Saints off. How could a team that started the season with two losses possibly hope to compete in a division featuring the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers? But in Week 3, facing Carolina, the Saints were able to deliver a masterful 34-13 over their division rivals. Then, this past Sunday, New Orleans manhandled the Miami Dolphins 20-0 on the road. Now, with two consecutive wins on their belt, online betting sportsbooks are starting to reconsider New Orleans. What kind of odds are bookmakers giving Drew Brees and company this Sunday versus the Detroit Lions?
Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints – Sunday, October 15th
When: 1:00 pm ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans
Stream: Fox Sports Go, NFL Game Pass
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Detroit Lions +4 (-110) 51 (-110)
New Orleans Saints -4 (-110) 51 (-110)
At 3-2, the Detroit Lions have lost their grip on the lead in the NFC North. Detroit had an opportunity to remain tied with the Green Bay Packers for the lead in the division this past Sunday when they hosted the Carolina Panthers. In the end, Cam Newton would prove to be too much for Detroit as he led his team to a 27-24 win over the Lions. Now Detroit looks to make up for some lost ground in the divisional race.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints are coming into this Week 6 matchup sporting a 2-2 record, since the franchise enjoyed a Bye Week in Week 5. Having a Bye Week this early in the season could prove to be detrimental down the road but the Saints will have a chance this weekend to prove that it’s not all that bad.
Surprisingly enough, despite their struggles this season, the online NFL betting odds are pegging the Saints as the favorites. That’s not all that surprising, but seeing them pegged as -4 on the spread line is. Sure, the Saints could beat the Lions, but not by 4 points. The Lions two losses of the season have come to Atlanta by 4 points and Carolina by 3 points. Sure the Saints can match those teams offensively, but they can’t on defense.
New Orleans come into this contest with the league’s 29th worst total defense, 28th worst against the pass and 17th against the run. Sure, they’re only No. 12 in terms of scoring, but if they can’t slow Matt Stafford’s production, fans can expect the Lions quarterback to have a field day.
