Lions-Giants: Neither Team Can Afford to LosePosted by: Mike Davis
Although every single NFL betting website had them ruled out at the start of the season, the Detroit Lions are dangerously close to making the playoffs. Although Detroit struggled to find consistency early on in the season, with their most recent win over the Chicago Bears the Lions have now won 5 consecutive games. The NFC North didn’t seem competitive at first but how the remaining 3 games of football play out will determine where the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers will rank in the North. Currently the North is led by the 9-4 Lions but with the Vikings and Packers right on their heels, Detroit can’t afford anymore slipups. Along the way the Lions have defied the NFL betting odds over and over again, and this upcoming weekend they’ll have to face off against a team who just recently proved capable of defying the odds themselves.
In Week 15 the Detroit Lions will be traveling to the Meadowlands to face off against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The Lions are 3-3 on the road and New York is 6-1 at home, so the Giants are likely to be favored in this contest. But, just to be sure, let’s double check the online sportsbook odds.
NFL Odds – Week 15 – Sunday, December 18th
New York Giants -5 (-110) 41 (-105)
With a 5-point favorite, the football spread betting lines are favoring the Giants in this matchup. As previously mentioned, the Giants are coming off a very impressive win against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys came into that game with an 11-game streak only to have it snapped by the same team that handed Dallas’ their only loss of the season. Big Blue hadn’t been terribly impressive as of late but in that Sunday night contest they showed resilience that was eerily similar to the type they displayed during their memorable Super Bowl runs. Albeit, those teams had Tom Coughlin behind the reins but all things considered, Ben McAdoo has been doing a phenomenal job in his first year. As things stand right now, both the Giants and the Lions have a terrific chance of making the playoffs; the Lions by winning the North and the Giants by clinching a Wild Card berth. However, notwithstanding a tie, one of these two will be one step further after Sunday’s action has concluded.
Since neither team stands out on paper, it’s hard to determine who will have the upper hand this Sunday. The one statistic that is notable is the turnover ratio. Heading into this game the Giants sport a -5 TO ratio for the season. Meanwhile, the Lions are +4 overall. If Detroit can apply this difference on Sunday, they could very well deliver Week 15’s NFL betting upset.
