Posted by: Charlie Smith
World Cup betting kicks off next week but we still have a bit to go before the NFL sports betting season kicks off. To help pass the time, we’re taking an early look at some of Week 1’s most enticing matchups. One contest that fits that bill is the Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots pairing. The Pats will be vying to turn around their Super Bowl losing season. On the other hand, the Texans look to build on Deshaun Watson’s rookie season. Let’s check out the 3 team teaser odds to see what kind of turnout NFL bookmakers are predicting.
Houston Texans vs. New England Patriots – Sunday, September 9th
When: 1:00 pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
Stream: CBS Sports, NFL Game Pass
NFL Sports Betting Odds:
The Texans turned in a rather disappointing 4-12 record that saw them finish dead last in the AFC South last season. Houston started the season with Tom Savage under center. However, halfway through their first game of the season, the Texans opted to bench Savage and let Watson have a shot at winning the game. Although they didn’t come out on top, the rookie cemented himself as the starter. With Watson leading the charge, the Texans posted a 3-3 record that kept them alive in the playoff chase. Unfortunately for Houston, Watson would suffer a season-ending injury on November 2nd that derailed their hopes. Now, healthy and reinvigorated, Houston is ready to claim the AFC South for the Texans in 2018.
Players to Watch: Deshaun Watson (1,699 passing yards, 19 TD, 8 INT), Lamar Miller (888 rushing yards, 3 TD, 1 F), and DeAndre Hopkins (1,378 receiving yards, 13 TD, 96 REC).
New England Patriots
The Pats turned in a 13-3 record to win the AFC East yet again last season. Although New England found success on both sides of the ball, they still came up short when it mattered most. We all remember seeing the Eagles beat up on the Pats through all 3 phases of the game. Now things are likely to get even harder for New England. Brady is getting older with each passing day. And what’s worse is that more reports come out each day casting a shadow on the organization’s intrapersonal relationship.
Players to Watch: Tom Brady (4,577 passing yards, 32 TD, 8 INT), Dion Lewis (896 rushing yards, 6 TD,0 F), and Rob Gronkowski (1084 receiving yards, 8 TD, 69 REC).
