Houston Texans

The Texans had just completed outright domination of the Jacksonville Jaguars in their last matchup. It was a feel-good game for them with a 26-3 scoreboard. QB Deshaun Watson was at it with 22/28 and 201 passing yards. His 2 thrown TDs were picture-perfect. Carlos Hyde rushed for 19 carries, ending up with 160 yards gained. Duke Johnson was in charge of the reception, catching the ball 5 times and chucking in 68 yards.

The Houston Texans placed classic football: basically, win against your opponent at every turn. Blistering offense? Check. Choking defense? Check. The Texans rushed for 34 out of 63 plays. They kept their opponents in check with only 57% completion rate on throws. Their only concession to the opponent was 357 yards and 4 forced takeaways.

While other teams would focus only on offense or defense, the Texans are capable of balancing their efforts at sustaining both. Their win-loss record is enough to catapult them to the Final Four, but they need to cement their chances by winning the next couple of matchups.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are also coming from an ego-stoking game. They obliterated the Cincinnati Bengals with a 49-13 scorecard. QB Lamar Jackson made the game into a performance showcase. He did 15/17 with 223 passing yards and 3 thrown TDs. The RB was not to be outdone however, and he scored 1 touchdown. The RB gained 47 yards gained through only 7 carries. Marquise Brown caught the ball 4 times for an 80 yard add-on.

The Ravens ran in 23 out of 46 plays. They were rushing for roughly half of their offensive output. They did first-downs for 23 times with a minimum of 5 penalties. Overall, the Ravens gained 379 yards as opposed to their opponent’s 307 yards. The defense served its job, limiting the opponent to 53% completion rate on throws. However, the Ravens gave way too much on rush attempts, allowing the enemy to run 40 times.

While the Ravens definitely had the advantage in their past matchup, it’s imperative that they patch up their rush defense. If they go against a team that excels in rushing, they might be hard-pressed to find answers.
