Hawks-Rams Vie for Online NFL Betting Lead in the WestPosted by: Charlie Smith
Five weeks into the 2017 online NFL betting season and it’s clear that the NFC West is shaping up to be much more interesting than originally anticipated. The Seattle Seahawks, who were thought to be the NFL sportsbook favorite in the division, have been struggling a big which has left the door open for another team to walk in and claim the lead in the division. Needless to say, we were all surprised when that team turned out to the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams have the youngest head coach in league history but Sean McVay isn’t letting his youth deter this team from finding success this season. Los Angeles is currently sitting on a 3-1 record that paints them as the best team in the NFC West. However, the Rams will need a strong performance this Sunday if they are to retain the lead in the West since they’re facing off against the Seahawks. Let’s see what kind of contest sports wagering sites are predicting for this Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams – Sunday, October 8th
When: 4:05 pm ET
Where: LA Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles
Stream: Fox Sports Go, NFL Game Pass
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Seattle Seahawks +2 ½ (-110) 47 (-110)
Los Angeles Rams -2 ½ (-110) 47 (-110)
The Seahawks qualified for the playoffs last season but unless they get their act together, it doesn’t seem like they’ll be able to keep their postseason appearance streak alive. It’s no enigma as to what is crippling the Seahawks: an offense that can’t maintain time of possession or put points on the board. Seattle currently ranks 14th in the NFL in terms of points scored per game with an average of 23.5 points scored per outing. But it’s really the time of possession that is the stone in Seattle’s shoes.
If Seattle can put up 24, their defense can certainly hold their opponent under that. If, and only if, the Seahawks manage to win or at least be competitive in the time of possession battle. It doesn’t matter how fearsome your defense is. As the great Vince Lombardi once said ‘fatigue makes cowards of us all’. Week in and week out we’ve seen the Hawks defense out there for a considerable length of time, often much more time than their offense. This will spell trouble down the road but if Seattle can manage to correct this issue, they will be favorites in the division once more.
Los Angeles Rams
Jared Goff has been an absolute madman for the Rams. Their 2016 first round draft pick, Goff didn’t have a breakout season under Jeff Fisher. But that’s not so much the rookie’s fault but rather the inability of Fisher to run an offense in the NFL. With a new and wiser coach, Goff has gotten a valid opportunity to blossom and he certainly hasn’t let it pass him by. Goff comes into this weekend’s contest with 7 touchdowns, a lone pick, 1,072 yards and an elite 112.2 passer rating to his name.
