Green Bay Packers

The Packers were very picky in their offensive plays versus the Kansas City Chiefs during their last matchup. They obviously chose the best that their offense could muster. Their respect of the Chiefs was well-earned, as the latter came almost within touchdown range with the 31-24 endgame score. QB Aaron Rodgers performed exceptionally well with 23/33 and 305 air yards. He connected 3 thrown touchdowns. Although touchdown-less, Aaron Jones wasn’t about to be left behind. He rushed 13 carries and gained 67 yards for the team.

The Packers were rushing for 26 out of 64 plays. Their mixed offense tactic served them well, confusing the opponent’s defense just enough for them to pull away with a mid-game lead. They gained 374 yards as opposed to their concession of 337 yards to their opponent. The Packers gave the impression that they didn’t put much energy into defense anymore. They allowed the opponent to complete 24 out of 36 throw attempts, and 20 rush attempts.

While it’s good to see the Green Bay Packers winning with a different strategy, it was risky to lower down their defenses, even against a lower-tier team. They should also concede fewer yards, as this will prove to be their undoing when engaging higher-tier teams.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are in high spirits as they beat the Chicago Bears on a hairline score of 17-16. QB Philip Rivers went 19/29 and threw 201 yards on passing terms. He also chucked in 1 touchdown for good measure and ended the game with 1 interception as well. Melvin Gordon wasn’t about to be left behind. His 31-yard contribution was accumulated via 8 carries. He also ran 19 yards and finished with a rushing touchdown. Mike Williams took care of the receptions as he caught the ball 3 times for 69 yards.

The Chargers ran 12 times out of 42 plays. They were obviously not keen on closing out the game via the rush tactic. Their defense conceded an alarming 388 yards to the opponent. It was a wonder that they didn’t succumb due to the huge gap in yardage gained. The Chargers were obviously lucky that their playmakers were able to convert their relatively meager yards into touchdowns. If they weren’t able to, it would have been a sure loss for them.

The Chargers need to improve stats across the board, but for now, it would be good to just let them play their own game and see where varied tactics would take them. It’s quite late to target the Finals spot, but they might be in a better position for that next season.
