Monday night football makes its return in Week 10 giving us an inter-conference matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the NFC South contenders Carolina Panthers. Considering the difference in both team’s records, and both team’s quarterbacks as well, the Panthers are likely to be pegged as heavy wagering favorites by football betting websites. Let’s take a look at just how heavy that favoritism is.

The Dolphins suffered an early injury to Ryan Tannehill this season that pretty much sunk the team’s playoff aspirations. The team decided to bring Jay Cutler out of retirement, a move that left some football betting websites questioning whether or not the Dolphins were giving Colin Kaepernick the cold shoulder. Considering that the franchise is sitting on a 4-4 record, it’s safe to say that the Cutler move hasn’t exactly paid off. Miami comes into this Monday night matchup sporting the league’s worst scoring offense, the penultimate ranking total offense, and the Dolphins rank 29th in passing. This is pretty much what everyone was expecting out of Miami’s offense once we found out that they were brining Cutler in. The former Bears’ quarterback has 10 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, 1,306 passing yards as well as an 87.4 passer rating. This Sunday, Cutler will have to compete against a defense that ranks 6th against the pass and 2nd against the run. It goes without saying that Miami will have a poor day offensively this Monday night.
The Panthers come into this Week 10 matchup showing off an impressive 6-3 record that ranks them 2nd in the NFC South behind the 6-2 New Orleans Saints. The Panthers faced New Orleans earlier this season and suffered a 13-34 loss to their NFC South rivals. Nevertheless, with wins over the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, last year’s Super Bowl contenders, there’s no questioning the Panthers’ talents. However, people placing sports bets online and football betting websites alike know that the real question of this team is consistency. Also, the Panthers recently traded away Kelvin Benjamin, Cam Newton’s favorite receiver. Some NFL betting pundits said the move made perfect sense, given Benjamin’s stats and age. But the move might still have had a negative impact on the atmosphere of the locker room.
But considering that the Panthers enter this Monday night matchup riding a game winning streak, it’s safe to say that the team hasn’t suffered much detriment. Versus the Dolphins, Newton & Co. will look to outdo the NFL’s 10th best defense. There’s no question that the Panthers have the talent to get the job done. But as aforementioned, this team has struggled with inconsistency. But at the end of the day, would you really feel comfortable taking Cutler over Newton?
