The Lions turned in a meager 6-10 record last season to finish dead last in the NFC North. All in all the division was pretty much up for grabs last season but the Lions failed to challenge the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 spot in the division. And since it was Matt Patricia’s first year at the helm, it’s safe to say that the entire season was a massive disappointment for Detroit fans. Patricia studied under Bill Belichick and was supposedly just what this team needed to become a playoff contender. However, Patricia is a defensive minded coach and the Lions struggled severely on offense. Patricia isn’t necessarily on the hot seat but he needs to compete for a spot in the playoffs if he wants to keep things that way.
Players to Watch: Matthew Stafford (3,777 passing yards, 21 TD, 11 INT), Kerryon Johnson (641 rushing yards, 3 TD, 1 F), and Kenny Golladay (1,063 receiving yards, 5 TD, 70 REC).
The Cardinals delivered a massively disappointing 3-13 record last season that saw them pegged as the worst team in the NFC West. This was a pretty big step down from the 8-8 record the team delivered the previous season. It was also Steve Wilks debut season as Arizona’s new head coach and it’s safe to say that things didn’t pan out the way they were hoping. Sam Bradford had been brought in during the offseason and was supposed to give this team the spark they needed to be competitive in the west. Bradford had enjoyed decent success with the Vikings but didn’t have the same support in Arizona. After all, the Cardinals defense wasn’t nearly as strong and David Johnson wasn’t his normal self coming off an injury.
Players to Watch: Kyler Murray (Rookie), David Johnson (940 rushing yards, 7 TD, 2 F), and Larry Fitzgerald (734 receiving yards, 6 TD, 69 REC).
