Dallas Cowboys

After watching Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott explode out onto the scene in 2016, the Cowboys had high hopes for the 2017 season. In fact, the team was confident that they could make another postseason trip. However, that didn’t turn out to be the case. In fact, Dallas struggled right out of the gate, losing 3 out of 5 games before their Week 6 Bye. Most of their problems at the time stemmed from a defense that was giving up too many points per game. However, around the midseason mark, Dallas came under fire for Jerry Jones handling of the anthem protest. Jones, being the owner of a Texas based team, did not want his players protesting. At the same time, he didn’t want to make any enemies.

Ultimately Jones botched his attempt at avoiding controversy by stirring the pot more than needed. In the end, this paved the way for Dallas’ 9-7 record that saw them miss out on the postseason.

Players to Watch: Dak Prescott (3,324 passing yards, 22 TD, 13 INT), Ezekiel Elliott (983 rushing yards, 7 TD, 1 F), and Terrance Williams (568 receiving yards, 0 TD, 53 REC).

San Francisco 49ers

The Niners turned in a 6-10 record last season. And while that might not give you much hope for San Fran in 2018, the way they closed out the season certainly did. For those who don’t recall, there was a bit of controversy in New England towards the end of last year’s season. Head coach Bill Belichick wanted to bid Brady Farewell and prepare Jimmy G as the new face of the franchise. However, owner Robert Kraft didn’t like that idea since he sees Brady as a child. So, Kraft forced Belichick’s hand and made him trade Garoppolo to the Niners. And since he helped them close out the season with a 5-game winning streak, it’s safe to say San Francisco is ecstatic to have him. We’ll have to see what Garoppolo is capable of with a full 16-game schedule.

Players to Watch: Jimmy Garoppolo (1,560 passing yards, 7 TD, 5 INT), Carlos Hyde (940 rushing yards, 8 TD, 2 F), and Marquise Goodwin (962 receiving yards, 2 TD, 56 REC).
