Cleveland Browns

The Browns are still licking their wounds from a 27-13 beating versus the New England Patriots. QB Baker Mayfield epitomized team spirit by going 20/31 at 194 air yards. Thanks to his never-say-die attitude, he garnered a thrown touchdown and a pick. The Browns depended on Nick Chubb to rush for 20 carries. He earned 131 yards in this manner.

Jarvis Landry caught the ball 5 times for an additional 65 yards covered. The Browns rushed 22 times out of 58 plays. It’s a decent number, but they obviously failed to convert most of these attempts into points. Surprisingly, the Browns played highly tenacious defense, limiting their opponents to only a 56% completion rate on throws. They were unable to find answers versus 27 opponent rush attempts. Overall, the Browns gained 310 yards, while their opponent gained 318 yards.

The Browns are to be commended for their good defense, but they still lack the offensive capability to balance out their attacks. While they are able to guard against attacks, they can’t take advantage of the field by putting in some scoring attempts. They need to develop better scoring tactics.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos lost by just a few points against the Indianapolis Colts at 15-13 endgame score. They have to find a way to get that last burst of effort they’ve seemingly missed in all their lost games. QB Joe Flacco was not able to throw any touchdowns, but he made up for it with 20/32 and 174 air yards. Philip Lindsay was likewise not able to do a rushing touchdown. But he contributed 14 carries for 59 yards gained. Courtland Sutton received the ball only 3 times but managed to advance 72 yards.

The Denver Broncos rushed aggressively 28 times out of 63 plays. Their mixed offense of throws and rushes earned them 279 yards. This still paled in comparison to the 318 yards they had to concede to their opponent. To their credit, they were able to limit their opponents to only 60% completion rate on throws, but they still allowed an alarming 31 opponent runs, which probably cost them the game.

The Broncos have too many improvements they need to implement, and foremost of these is their rushing tactic. They need more rush attacks for other teams to respond to their offensive plays.
