Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals added another loss to their extensive record when they bowed down to the New England Patriots. The team absorbed a 34-13 loss against one of the NFL’s leading teams. QB Andy Dalton tried to salvage the game but settled for a 17/31 with 151 passing yards. He managed to score a thrown TD. Joe Mixon fought throughout the helpless game. He carried the ball 25 times and helped the team gain 136 yards. Tyler Eifert followed his lead, catching the ball 3 times across 44 yards.

The Bengals should be credited for not giving up in the face of a superior enemy. The Bengals put up a brave front, rushing for 32 out of 63 plays. They stubbornly initiated 19 first downs. The Bengals even managed to partially shut down the opponent’s throw attempts. They held down throw the completion rate to only 52%. However, the Bengals didn’t have an answer to the opponent’s rush attacks. 32 runs made it through the Bengals’ defensive line. Some of these runs became touchdowns.

The Bengals, weirdly enough, had a very minor advantage in the battle of the yards. They gained 315 yards, while their opponent only got 291. When it came to yards-to-points conversion, however, the Bengals couldn’t outperform their opponent. The Bengals sorely need accuracy training. They will definitely be motivated to do better next season.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins engaged the New York Giants but floundered against the superior offense. The Dolphins swam away with a 36-20 loss. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick still made an impressive performance with 23/41 and 279 air yards. He refused to throw in the towel and instead threw in 2 TDs. Patrick Laird helped the QB via ground offense. He carried the ball 12 times across 46 yards. DeVante Parker was the top receiver, going for 4 catches worth 72 yards.

Miami didn’t have much going for them. They chose to pour their energies into the offense. They rushed for 26 out of 69 plays. This strongly indicated a mixed offense. The Dolphins were trying to adjust against an enemy defensive line that discouraged runs. The Dolphins had an inadequate focus on their defense. The opponent connected 72% of their throw attempts. The opponent was also able to score through 33 rush attacks.

Miami was hungry for territory, but they didn’t have a clear upper hand in yardage gain. The Dolphins got to own 384 yards, while the opponent gained 412. They suffered from having their rush attacks severely limited by the opponent’s strong defense. The Dolphins should learn more tactics in overcoming rush defenses.
