Carolina Panthers

The Panthers pounce into this postseason matchup full of confidence after finishing the regular season with an 11-5 record. Notwithstanding such a brilliant record, Carolina came up short in the divisional race. The reason being the two losses that Carolina suffered against New Orleans Saints during the regular season. While those losses kept the panthers from claiming the NFC South, Carolina will nonetheless have an opportunity to extract revenge on their divisional rivals. And it will be when it matters most. That said, the betting sportsbook odds aren’t exactly favoring Carolina this weekend. But how well will the Panthers match up against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints this weekend?

Considering that the Panthers’ finished the 2017 regular season with the NFL’s 7th best defense, they should match up pretty well against the Saints. That said, the strength of the Panthers’ defense lies in their run defense, which was the 3rd best overall this season. Comparatively, the Saints can get the job done through the air and on the ground. Specifically, New Orleans wielded the 5th best pass offense in the NFL and 5th best running attack. But considering that the Panthers ranked 18th against the pass, it’s safe to assume that the Saints will stick to passing the ball this Sunday.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints, who finished last year’s season with a 7-9 record, were able to turn things around by delivering an 11-5 record. And as previously mentioned, the Saints were able to walk away with an NFC South title. It’s been 6 years since the Saints have won the division and 8 since they won the Super Bowl. Granted, New Orleans isn’t a favorite to win this year’s Super Bowl. However, they are the NFL betting online favorites in this matchup. But with the Saints ending the regular season with a 2-2 record, should betting sportsbook players feel confident backing them in this Sunday’s Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints matchup?

There’s not much value in taking New Orleans straight up. Alternatively, bettors can place a small bet on the Panthers, since they’re such a lofty payout. However, if you snark at the idea of betting on the Panthers, you can take the Saints on the spread. They finished the season with a 9-6-1 record against the spread and will only have to cover 6 ½ points this weekend.
