Can San Francisco Upset the Seahawks?

49ers vs. Seahawks Odds Week 3

The Seattle Seahawks seemed like a pretty solid choice for preseason online football bets. But gamblers who have been watching the ‘Hawks these first two weeks might just be regretting an early Seattle prediction. Seattle’s defense has been pretty impressive, but unfortunately for the ‘Hawks, their offense has been the complete opposite. Entering Week 3 the Seahawks’ offense is ranked penultimate in points per contest, with a measly 7.5. There aren’t too many teams in the NFL that you can beat with 8 points, even if your defense is the Legion of Boom. The Seahawks offense was woeful the first two weeks, but they’ll do their best to get on the same page for Week 3, or risk losing to a division rival. Seattle faces San Francisco this upcoming Sunday, and even though the Seahawks haven’t been nearly as impressive as expected, the NFL betting odds are still picking them as the favorite.

Week 3 – Sunday the 25th of September

49ers +9 (-105) 40 (-110) +325
Seahawks -9 (-115) 40 (-110) -405

The Seahawks are nearly a 10-point favorite in this matchup, which comes as a surprise considering they couldn’t even score 10 points against the Rams. In their home opener Seattle faced the Miami Dolphins, but still were only able to put 12 points on the board. Even though they gained 352 yards in the contest against Miami, most of their drives ended with either a field goal or a turnover. The following week against the Rams, Seattle only gained 306 total yards. 50 fewer yards in that contest resulted in 9 less points on the scoreboard, and the Seahawks would succumb to the Rams 9-3. If three field goals are all it takes to beat Seattle, then an online football bet on the Niners might not be a terrible idea.

San Francisco opened up the 2016 season by making quick work of Los Angeles – the same team that the Seahawks couldn’t beat. In their home opener San Francisco outscored the Rams 28-0, and outgained them 320 yards, to a mere 185. The following week the 49ers would face a much tougher opponent, the Carolina Panthers, and although they were handed a beating at the end, they still managed to compete with one of the best teams in the NFC. With less than 5 minutes left in the game the Panthers were up 37-27. Carolina had just scored a field goal and San Francisco was in a prime position to make it a one-possession game. However, pitiful passes from Blaine Gabbert resulted in two untimely interceptions that paved the way for a 46-27 49ers loss. The Panthers carved up the Niners for an astonishing 529 yards, while San Fran was barely able to gain 302. Those stats are pretty humiliating, but if it wasn’t for those interceptions the Niners would’ve had a serious chance of upsetting the Panthers. Coming into Sunday’s matchup the 49ers are ranked 9th in the league in points per game, with an average of 27.5. That’s 20 more points than what the Seahawks are averaging per contest, which makes it seem like a Seattle victory might not be a guarantee. The Niners are currently atop the NFC West, and this weekend they’ll be looking to prove themselves worthy of both that ranking, and your online football bets.
