Can the Bucs Pull off Another NFL Betting Upset?

Buccaneers vs Seahawks, NFL Week 12 Betting

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t fans go-to team when sports book betting, but with their Week 11 win over the Kansas City Chiefs the Bucs have kept their playoff hopes alive and proven that they can compete with some of the better teams in the NFL. In Week 12, Tampa Bay will get the opportunity to prove that they belong in the postseason when they face off against the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks will be coming in with all the confidence in the world, as well as a three game win-streak that includes beating teams like New England and Philadelphia. Needless to say, Tampa Bay will have their hands full but let’s take a look at what the football betting lines have to say about the Buccaneers’ chances.

NFL Odds – Week 12 – Sunday, November 27th

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +5½ (-105) 45 (-110)
Seattle Seahawks -5½ (-115) 45 (-110)

Oddly enough, the odds are giving the Buccaneers a fighting chance against the Seahawks. Tampa Bay isn’t a team that inspires a whole lot of confidence for a bet on NFL games, but if they’re able to deliver another upset this upcoming weekend, fans might just have to reconsider whether or not a pick on Tampa Bay is worth it. But can the Bucs actually deliver an upset two weeks in a row?

The football betting lines may not be ruling it out, but from a statistical point of view it a Tampa Bay upset doesn’t seem likely. Sure they upset the Chiefs this past Sunday, but Kansas City looks like a pretty mediocre team on paper, despite their 7-3 record. The Seahawks on the other hand, have one of the best defenses in the league, coupled with an offense capable of some pretty impressive feats. Tampa Bay will need to focus on slowing down the Seahawks offense because Seattle’s defense is much more impressive than their offense. Not that they have a lackluster offensive unit, but rather because their defense is so foreboding. The Hawks have the 11th best rushing defense, the 10th pass defense, and the 9th best total defense in the NFL. Oh, and they are also giving up the least amount of points in the league.

With that in mind it’s clear that Tampa Bay’s best strategy would be to slow down Seattle’s offense as much as possible. Unfortunately for the Bucs, they don’t exactly have an elite defense. In fact their defense ranks sub-25 in everything except points, in which they rank 24th. But if somehow the Buccaneers can pull of the miraculous and halt Seattle’s offense, and combine that with spectacular play from special teams, Tampa Bay might just pull off this upset. If they do, fans can expect the football betting lines to side with the Bucs in their next contest.
