Call PETA: Green Bay Packers beat Bears, target Falcons

Posted by: Mike Davis

The Green Bay Packers, fresh from a victory, will visit the Atlanta Falcons, currently on a two-game losing streak. The online NFL betting odds for the game on Sunday, October 30th at the Georgia Dome are the following at the BetNow football betting site:

Green Bay Packers +3 (-115) 52½ (-110) +135
Atlanta Falcons -3 (-105) 52½ (-110) -155

The Green Bay Packers (4-2) did their now trademarked sandwiching a loss in between two wins. Thus the preceded a loss to the Dallas Cowboys with a win over the New York Giants and followed it with 26-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. In the latter, Aaron Rodgers threw 39 of 56 (a new franchise record for completions) for 326 yards with three TD passes – one to wide receiver Davante Adams and another to Randall Cobb. The Packers were without running back Eddie Lacy, so Ty Montgomery led the rushing attack with 60 yards on nine carries. Green Bay got off to a slow start, but by 5:31 of the fourth quarter Rodgers had more completions than Chicago had offensive plays.

The Falcons (4-3) blew a 17-point lead and lost a second straight game on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. Atlanta was ahead with three straight second-quarter touchdowns. Falcons QB Matt Ryan finished 22 of 34 for 273 yards with one TD and one interception – which set up a Chargers field goal that tied the game with 18 seconds left in regulation. Atlanta kicker Matt Bryant missed his own field goal attempt on the last play of regulation. In overtime, another field goal gave San Diego the W.

According to online NFL betting odds, the Falcons are the favorite to win straight up this Sunday. However, Atlanta has failed to cover the spread in its previous ten games as a betting favorite and has in fact lost to the Packers in their last four meetings. Additionally, the Falcons are just 2-7 against the spread following a loss since the start of 2015, the worst record of any team in the NFC conference in that period of time. On the other hand, the Falcons have covered the spread in the past two encounters with the Packers, as well as seven of their last ten head-to-head matchups. Two years ago, Atlanta came back from a 24-point deficit at halftime to cover the spread as underdogs in a 43-37 defeat.

However, it’s Green Bay that has the momentum going forward. Atlanta has the highest scoring offense in the league with 32.7 points per game, but Rodgers just had one of the best performances of his career, and it was all in the second half. Moreover, the Falcons have lost both games where they were the online NFL betting favorites so far in the 2016 regular season, going 4-1 as underdogs. The Packers are just 3-7 ATS in their last ten games against Atlanta, but they will have had some additional time to prepare for Sunday after taking care of the Bears on Thursday.
