Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Early Look at 2018’s Opening Day

The 2018 online NFL betting season is still a long way’s off. However, with the NFL draft well behind us, online sportsbook players have begun to look ahead to this upcoming betting season. The first matchup to look at is obviously the opening day contest between the reigning Super Bowl champs and the Atlanta Falcons. One has to question the league’s motivation when putting together this contest. Since the Eagles just got done beating New England in the Super Bowl, something the Falcons were unable to do the year before, it almost seems like the NFL is trying to kick the Falcons when they’re down. What kind of chances are the 4 team parlay odds giving the Falcons in this opening day matchup?

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons are coming off a 10-6 season that saw them finish 3rd in the NFC South, despite winning the division the year before. All in all, the Falcons finished last year’s season with the 15th best scoring offense, 8th best total offense, 8th best passing offense and 13th best running game. Those numbers were quite impressive and Atlanta fared well defensively as well. Specifically, Atlanta would finish 8th in points allowed, 9th in total defense, 12th against the pass and 9th against the run. Moving forward, Falcons fans can expect another successful season. Most of Atlanta’s stars will be returning next season and should have no problem picking up where they left off.

Players to Watch: Matt Ryan (4,095 passing yards, 20 TD, 12 INT), Devonta Freeman (856 rushing yards, 7 TD, 4 F), and Julio Jones (1444 receiving yards, 3 TD, 88 REC).

Philadelphia Eagles

Coming off a Super Bowl triumph, the Eagles have some pretty big shoes to fill. It’ll be interesting to see how Philly handles their quarterback situation. While the confetti was still falling on the Eagles’ Super Bowl triumph, online NFL betting pundits were already beginning to chalk up how the Wentz-Foles debacle would end. Some claimed Foles would be traded, so that the issue could be resolved amicably. But now, with the start of the OTAs, it’s looking like this could delve into a preseason battle. Neither the front office nor the players are giving any inkling of how the atmosphere in the locker room is. All things considered, it can’t be too comfortable in there.

Players to Watch: Carson Wentz (3296 passing yards, 33 TD, 7 INT), LeGarrette Blount (766 rushing yards, 2 TD, 1 F), and Zach Ertz (824 receiving yards, 8 TD, and 74 REC).
