Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals hung on to a thread of hope but were unable to eclipse the San Francisco 49ers during their last matchup. It was no small feat to play the 49ers on almost equal footing, as the latter is the de facto leader of the NFL pack. The Cardinals finished with a 28-25 scoreboard. The players, aware of the fact that they faced a top-caliber team, drew from their hidden reserves to dish out impressive stats.

QB Kyler Murray was 17/24 with 241 passing yards. He committed 2 thrown touchdowns despite the strong defense of the opponent. Kenyan Drake also rushed for a touchdown. He carried the ball 15 times, contributing a yardage gain of 110 yards. Andy Isabella caught the ball only once, but for a staggering distance of 88 yards.

The Cardinals did their best to equalize the offense of the NFL leader. They ran 23 times out of 50 plays, a good number despite the fact that the opponent was defending on both the rushing and throwing fronts. They were not able to shut down the offensive machine of the 49ers however, as they still allowed 76% throw completion rate and 31 runs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers danced with the Seattle Seahawks and lost amidst a high-scoring ballgame of 40-34. The players played their hearts out, but they were outclassed in the closing moments of the game.

QB Jameis Winston had a stellar performance with 29/44 and 335 passing yards. He capped off the evening with 2 thrown touchdowns. Ronald Jones II took the reins for the rushing. He ran for a touchdown and gave the team 67 more yards thanks to his 18 carries.

Receiver Mike Evans worked overtime, catching the ball an amazing twelve times, and punching in 180 yardage gain. The Buccaneers ran for 26 times out of 72 plays. They favored a mixed type of offense. However, it was obvious that they were overrun by the opponent’s yard-to-score ratio. The Buccaneers gained 418 yards as compared to their opponent’s 347.

While the yardage gain gap is significant, the Buccaneers still found themselves in a fix. Hopefully next time they’ll put more trust in the rush!
