The Cards fly into this weekend’s action sporting an 0-4 record that ranks them dead last in the NFC West. Arizona was hopeful that the offseason acquisition of Sam Bradford would make them competitive in the division. Bradford had been with the Vikings over the last couple of years and had delivered some very successful seasons. However, it’s one thing to find success when you have the Vikings’ defense behind you and it’s an entirely different ordeal to find success with Arizona’s defense behind you. Right now the cardinals are giving up 23.5 per game, which is actually less than the 29.5 that the Niners give up. However, considering that Arizona isn’t even averaging 10 points per game (right now they’re putting up 9.3 per matchup), it’s clear that the Cardinals won’t be winning too many games this season. Ultimately the franchise is asking Bradford to do too much. Especially since David Johnson, who’s coming off an injury, isn’t helping out that much either.
Players to Watch: Sam Bradford (400 passing yards, 2 TD, 4 INT), David Johnson (187 rushing yards, 2 TD, 1 F), and Christian Kirk (149 receiving yards, 0 TD, 16 REC).
San Francisco 49ers
The Niners flock to this weekend’s matchup sporting a 1-3 record. The franchise had high hopes for this season because, like the Cardinals, they had acquired a new quarterback. Jimmy G joined San Fran last season and lead them to a 5-0 record to close out the season. Naturally, San Francisco was ecstatic to have a franchise quarterback back in action. Unfortunately, Garoppolo didn’t have a phenomenal start to the season. Furthermore, he recently tore his ACL and will be out for the season. Obviously this is a tough break for the franchise, one they haven’t really bounced back from. This past weekend they tried to take on the Chargers without Garoppolo and actually came close to getting the job done. But in the end, Los Angeles prevailed 29-27. Fortunately, the 49ers now have an opportunity to build some momentum by facing an extremely meager Arizona squadron.
Players to Watch: CJ Beathard (298 passing yards, 2 TD, 2 INT), Matt Breida (313 rushing yards, 1 TD, 0 F), and George Kittle (316 receiving yards, 1 TD, 18 REC).
