Betting on NFL Games Online

Betting on NFL and turning a profit are not mutually exclusive concepts, but one does not follow the other seamlessly either. You do need to have an NFL betting strategy in place in order to be able to maximize your wins and minimize your losses. The first step is to put aside a sum of money that you can dispose of for gambling – otherwise known as a bankroll – and bet from 2 percent to 5 percent of that money. For example, if your bankroll is $1,000 dollars, your wagers would range from $20 to $50. Novice bettors often make the mistake of upping their bets when they start winning or trying to make up for losses with bigger bets. As the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted.

One way to lose money fast when betting on NFL teams is to pick your favorites with your heart instead of with your brain. Supporting your hometown team can cause you a lot of grief as a fan, but it should not cost you money as a gambler. Remember that NFL betting is based on odds, not on teams. In other words, teams that you think will win (or cover the spread, etc.) rather than teams that you want to win. The reverse of this is bettors who wager on near every game each week. You should find the best plays and bet your 2% if they are small plays or your 5% if you really, really like them – if that means placing only a couple of bets, then that’s the way it goes.

Finding the best NFL betting plays means paying attention to the numbers. Casual gamblers often lose more than they win because half-a-point here and there makes no difference to them. Let’s say it’s 20 minutes till game time and you want to bet on the Dallas Cowboys -3, but by the time you are about to place your bet it’s -3.5. The smart bettor will reconsider at that point, but the average guy will bet it at -6 if that’s the number he sees, and he is more than likely to lose. Similarly, parlay wagering may seem very tempting what its big winnings, but you should play them wisely and limit them to no more than two teams at a given time.

Another characteristic of the best NFL betting gamblers is that they know how to keep their heads cool during a losing streak. Once again, when the heart rules the mind people get careless and make bad decisions and they lose even more. This applies more to poker than NFL betting, but it’s still true: you have to know when to hold’em and when to fold’em. Likewise, smart bettors do not let themselves get carried away when they are on a roll. That’s why online sportsbooks are preferable to casinos; the latter have free drinks, which can cloud judgment and lead to poor choices.

And when it comes to online sportsbooks, BETNOW makes betting on NFL as simple as it gets with multiple opportunities for placing your wagers.
