NFL Week 14 Jets vs 49ers Odds and Preview

Are the 49ers Actually Online NFL Betting Favorites??

With their loss to the Indianapolis Colts this past Monday night, the New York Jets have lost their final opportunity to make 2016 a winning season. It has been a tumultuous season filled with never ending disappointments and it’s certainly not the way Todd Bowles wanted his first year as head coach to unfold. Online NFL betting fans will remember that Bowles took over for Rex Ryan after he compiled a 46-50 record in 6 seasons at the helm. Bowles didn’t necessarily have big shoes to fill, but there’s always pressure on an NFL coach to perform, especially one who’s African American. Unfortunately for Bowles, the football odds didn’t predict an abundance of success for the Jets this year and New York couldn’t find a way to overcome their prediction.

To finish out the season the Jets will be trying to win as many games as possible. Judging by the fact that they are facing the 1-11 San Francisco 49ers this upcoming weekend, it would be surprising to see the Jets scrape by a win. This Sunday the 49ers will be opening up their home to give New York a warm welcome to Levi Stadium. Let’s see what the online NFL betting odds have to say about these teams’ chances under the hot California sun.

NFL Odds – Week 14 – Sunday, December 11th

New York Jets +2½ (EV) 43½ (-115) +127
San Francisco 49ers -2½ (-120) 43½ (-105) -147

Apparently the best betting sportsbooks think that San Francisco will have the upper hand in this contest, in spite of the fact that the Jets have three times as many wins as the 49ers. San Fran will be starting Colin Kaepernick this Sunday, notwithstanding the fact that they benched them halfway through their 26-6 loss to the Chicago Bears this past weekend. Personally, I wasn’t watching this game but the news to bench Kaepernick came as a huge surprise.

Granted, he wasn’t having the best day, but he still only attempted 5 passes. Kaepernick went 1/5 for 4 yards and Chip Kelly thought that was enough to keep him from finishing the game. Granted Kaepernick did get sacked 5 times for a loss of 25 yards but that seems more like an offensive line issue than a quarterback issue. Hopefully Kaepernick can have a better performance this Sunday, lest he gets benched again.

Considering that the Jets have the 23rd worst passing defense in the NFL, Kaepernick has an opportunity to silence his critics and display his talents. In addition, Kaepernick, and the entire 49ers’ roster, will have some extra motivation this Sunday. Chip Kelly is currently lamenting the loss of his father, who was an avid 49er fan and decided to get buried in the team’s gear. The online NFL betting odds don’t account for the intangibles, but this type of motivation is sure to light a fire under the San Francisco 49ers.
