Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons failed to pick up even a single win during the preseason. Granted, the preseason is never a good indicator of how you’re season will pan out. But if Atlanta opens up this year’s season by losing on the road to Philadelphia, it’s safe to say that Falcons fans won’t be too excited about 2018. Last season the team turned in a 10-6 record to finish 3rd in the NFC South. Although that wasn’t good enough to win the division, it was plenty good enough to earn a Wild Card berth. And in the Wild Card round, Atlanta would defeat the red-hot Los Angeles Rams 26-13. Now Atlanta looks to avenge last year’s divisional round loss to Philadelphia. The money line isn’t out yet but you can expect it to peg the Falcons as a sizable underdog.

Players to Watch: Matt Ryan (4,095 passing yards, 20 TD, 12 INT), Devonta Freeman (865 rushing yards, 7 TD, 4 F), and Julio Jones (1,444 receiving yards, 3 TD, 88 REC).

Philadelphia Eagles

Entering as the reigning Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia will have to find some way to build on last year’s breakout season. Few could have foreseen Doug Pederson stepping into Philadelphia and wining a Super Bowl in just his second season coaching ever. Nevertheless, the expectations are much higher this time around. But luckily for Pederson, the Eagles still have the pieces in place to be a dangerous contender this time around. Carson Wentz is coming off an injury and it will be interesting to see if he can pick up right where he left off. Wentz was the leading MVP candidate last season but after he went out, his backup led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory. That’s got to put a bit of pressure on Wentz to excel right from the get go.

Players to Watch: Carson Wentz  (3,296 passing yards, 33 TD, 7 INT), Jay Ajayi (408 rushing yards, 1 TD, 2 F), and Zach Ertz (824 rushing yards, 8 TD, 74 REC).
