Seminoles Banking on Running Game to Cook ACC

NCAA Football betting fans that picked the Florida State Seminoles over the Houston Cougars might still be sore about the way the game turned out. Though the score was only 38 – 24 the Seminoles ended up turning the ball over five times. Five turnovers are enough to get fans reeling, but losing in the final minutes is just about the worst thing that could happen. Although they finished with a 10 – 3 record the final game made the season an overall disappointment. But all is not lost for the Seminoles; they have a good majority of talent returning and will be a serious threat in the ACC. Jimbo Fisher will be entering his 7th season as head coach (9th overall with Florida State) and will be putting this team in contention for a national title. Let’s check in on the sportsbooks and see what they say about the Seminole’s chances for next season.

As media members begin to cast their vote for their favorites to win the ACC, it’s clear that the overwhelming majority picked Clemson to win the ACC. If Clemson is everyone’s favorite to win the ACC, then Florida State is everyone’s favorite to come in second. In fact if it weren’t for Clemson, and their flashy quarterback, the Seminoles would be receiving a much larger hype. It goes without saying that the main reason that Clemson is picked over Florida State is their Heisman-favorite quarterback Deshaun Watson. In fact if the Seminoles want to find success they better find a way to halt the future NFL star, something even Alabama’s fearsome defense couldn’t do. Last year they were able to deter Watson by forcing Clemson’s offense to commit two costly turnovers. Unfortunately the Seminoles inability to convert on 3rd downs cost them the game against their division rival.

While Clemson relies heavily on Watson, the same can be said about the Seminoles. But instead of relying on a quarterback, they prefer to rely on Dalvin Cook. If you had to rely on any running back in college football, most NCAA Football betting fans would choose Cook (or LSU’s Leonard Fournette) without hesitation. Even though Cook struggled with injuries throughout last season he still emerged as one of the premiere backs in the nation. In fact he was able to beat Warrick Dunn’s school record for single-season rushing yards in just nine games, a record that had stood for 20-years. He finished with over 1,600 yards and a monstrous 7.38 yards per carry. This team is by no means depleted of talent, but Cook is by far their best player.

One of the most exciting aspects about the Seminoles, besides their star running back, is the amount of starters that are returning for next season. With only 2 departures on offense you can expect this team to come rolling out of the gates. Defense may have had to say farewell to a couple more players but there are still 11 students returning from last year’s roster. With all the experience this team has, NCAA Football betting enthusiasts can be certain that Clemson won’t have an easy time winning the ACC.
