Western Michigan Broncos

The Broncos turned in a 7-5 record this season that included a 5-3 tally in MAC play. This led to a 2nd place ranking in the West Division of the conference. Although they didn’t get invited to the MAC Championship Game, Western Michigan was able to snap a 3 game losing streak in their final game of the season. Ultimately this probably played a large hand in them getting the invite to this year’s Bowl Game. However, it wasn’t enough to convince the college football betting odds to favor them in this Friday’s matchup. Looking over the numbers, it’s clear that the Broncos offense is the better unit. Right now Western Michigan is averaging 33.2 points per game while BYU is putting up 25.4. Defensively things are much different with the Cougars 21.7 average beating out the 33.3 that the Broncos give up per game.

Players to Watch: Jon Wassink (1,994 passing yards, 16 TD, 6 INT), LeVante Bellamy (1,172 rushing yards, 6 TD, 6.2 AVG), and Jayden Reed (797 receiving yards, 8 TD, 56 REC).

BYU Cougars

The Cougars turned in a 6-6 record this season. All in all they didn’t fare that greatly seeing how Army and Notre Dame had much better success this season. Ultimately BYU had plenty of opportunities to prove themselves but missed on the biggest ones. That includes a 35-7 loss to Washington and a 35-27 defeat at the hands of No. 17 Utah. Although they did manage to upset No. 6 Wisconsin 24-21 early in the season, it didn’t amount to much due to the handful of losses to unranked opponents. Now BYU looks to finish out the season on a high note with a Potato Bowl triumph over Western Michigan.

Players to Watch: Zach Wilson (1,261 passing yards, 8 TD, 3 INT), Lopini Katoa (423 rushing yards, 8 TD, 5.6 AVG), and Matt Bushman (459 receiving yards, 2 TD, 25 REC).
