Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Last season Notre Dame managed to post a 12-1 record. As aforementioned, this pegged them as the best independent program in the nation as they snagged one more win than Army. Their stellar efforts led to a playoff berth from the program. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, that berth didn’t amount to much as they were promptly eliminated by Clemson 3-30. Nevertheless, 2018 was a great season for the Fighting Irish and it promises that they can build off that success. In 2019 Brian Kelly will return as head coach for Notre Dame. He is of course joined by offensive coordinator Chip Long and defensive coordinator Clark Lea.
Players to Watch: Ian Book (2,628 passing yards, 19 TD, 7 INT), Tony Jones Jr. (392 rushing yards, 12 TD, 6.3 AVG), and Chase Claypool (639 receiving yards, 4 TD, 50 REC).
The Cardinals had a terrible season last year that saw Bobby Petrino fired mid-November. Lorenzo Ward stepped into serve as interim but didn’t help the program much as they would finish on a 7-game losing streak. Now Scott Satterfield has been hired as the head coach and has brought in an all new coaching staff. This includes Dwayne Ledford picking up the gauntlet at offensive coordinator and Bryan Brown stepping in as defensive coordinator. Satterfield is coming off a 5-year stint with Appalachian State college where he served as head coach. Under his watch, the program delivered 5 straight winning season as well as 3 conference titles in his last 3 years.
Players to Watch: Jawon Pass (1,960 passing yards, 8 TD, 12 INT), Malik Cunningham (497 rushing yards, 5 TD, 6.3 AVG), and Dez Fitzpatrick (422 receiving yards, 3 TD, 31 REC).
