To help them out, we’re taking an early look at some of the early matchups from the 2018 college football season. Today we break down the Northwestern Wildcats vs. Purdue Boilermakers matchup. What kind of turnout are the 2 team teaser odds predicting?
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Purdue Boilermakers – Thursday, August 30th
When: 8:00 pm ET
Where: Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette, Indiana
Stream: Watch ESPN
College Football Betting Odds:
Northwestern turned in a 10-3 record to finish 2nd in the West Division of the Big Ten Conference. The Wildcats earned that ranking by posting a 10-3 record in conference play. The NCAA decided that the Wildcats performed well enough to earn an invite to the Music City Bowl. There Northwestern would face Kentucky in a 24-23 winning effort. Ultimately it was a great finish to a terrific season. However, there’s no question the team will be looking to build on that success this year.
Players to Watch: Clayton Thorson [Junior] (2,809 passing yards, 15 TD, 12 INT), Jeremy Larkin [Freshman] (391 rushing yards, 5 TD, 5.2 avg), and Bennett Skowronek [Sophomore] (619 receiving yards, 5 TD, 42 REC).
The Boilermakers finished the 2017 season with a decent 7-6 record. Notwithstanding that winning record, Purdue posted a lackluster 4-5 record in Big Ten play. Subsequently, they finished 4th in the West Division, which isn’t all that terrible. Nevertheless, the program will be vying for better results in 2018. This year’s program will mark the second under Jeff Brohm’s guidance. We’ll have to see how he fares.
Players to Watch: Elijah Sindelar [Sophomore] (1,703 passing yards, 14 TD, 6 INT), Markell Jones [Junior] (480 rushing yards, 1 TD, 5.2 avg), and Jackson Anthrop [Freshman] (5 TD, 391 receiving yards, 44 REC).
