Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats turned in an 8-4 record this season that was still good enough to get them the No. 1 spot in the West division of the Big Ten. This was due to the 8-1 record in conference play the Wildcats posted. Clearly they struggled more against non-conference opponents, like unranked Duke and Akron, than the high-level competition that the Big Ten delivers. This is a bit interesting given that they’re facing one of the best programs in the nation. So if Duke and Akron were able to give Northwestern a run for their money, what will Ohio State be able to do to them in a conference championship? The stats certainly suggest that Northwestern is in for a blowout. After a season long effort, Northwestern averaged 23.7 points per game and gave up 21.7 to their opponents. On the other hand, Ohio State comes in with a whopping 43.3 points scored per game and are giving up a slim 25.8. This does not bode well for Northwestern.

Players to Watch: Clayton Thorson (2,675 passing yards, 14 TD, 12 INT), Isaiah Bowser (736 rushing yards, 6 TD, 4.6 AVG), and Flynn Nagel (746 receiving yards, 2 TD, 64 REC).

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes delivered an 11-1 record this season to win the Big Ten East. All in all it was a highly successful season except a midseason slip up to Purdue. In that matchup Ohio State managed to get blown out by the Boilermakers 49-20 in one of the wildest turnouts of the NCAA football betting season. Nevertheless Ohio State was able to handle that hiccup gracefully and is now trying to see if they can sneak into the playoffs. Naturally a dominant win over Northwestern would help them out tremendously. Fortunately for Ohio State it looks like they should be able to deliver a lopsided result against Northwestern effortlessly.

Players to Watch: Dwayne Haskins (4,081 passing yards, 42 TD, 7 INT), JK Dobbins (961 rushing yards, 8 TD, 4.7 AVG), and Parris Campbell (903 receiving yards, 11 TD, 72 REC).
