The 2017 college football betting season continues this week with a flurry of intriguing matchups to keep sports wagering fans glued to their TV sets. After the national rankings got a bit of a shakeup this weekend, bettors are ready to see how the new-best teams in the nation will perform under a tighter spotlight. Let’s start off by looking at the first matchup of the week, pitting the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals against No. 24 North Carolina State. Let’s take a look at what kind of turnout NCAA sportsbooks are predicting for this Thursday.
Louisville Cardinals vs. NC State Wolfpack – Thursday, October 5th
When: 8:00 pm ET
Where: Carter-Finley, North Carolina
Stream: Watch ESPN
College Football Betting Lines:
Louisville Cardinals -4 (-110) – -185
NC State Wolfpack +4 (-110) – +160
The No. 17 Cardinals fly into this Thursday night matchup sporting a 4-1 record that ties them for 3rd place in the ACC Atlantic alongside Florida State and Wake Forest. Louisville has a much better record on the season than Florida State but since the Cardinals have posted a 1-1 record in conference play, the ACC rankings don’t really give a hoot. The sports wagering odds are siding with the higher-ranked team this Thursday. However, the somewhat even sports wagering odds are hesitant to rule out an upset this week.
The Cardinals have one of the better offenses in the nation as they are putting up 40.0 points per game all the while only giving up 24.6. Louisville is extremely impressive in terms of yardage as they are putting up over 500 yards in each other game – it’s actually closer to 600 than 500. Defensively Louisville is giving up 317.6 which is also respectable.
NC State Wolfpack
No. 24 NC State marches into this Week 6 contest sporting a 4-1 record (2-0 in conference play) that gives way to a 2nd place ranking in the ACC Atlantic. If the Wolfpack manages to pull off an upset this Thursday, they will not only gain national attention but they’ll also tie with Clemson for the lead in the division. The Wolfpack stride into this matchup sporting a 4-game winning streak that includes a huge win over No. 12 Florida State. A win against Louisville would certainly toss NC State even higher up on the national rankings.
The Wolfpack is currently averaging 34.8 points per outing. Offensively NC State is averaging 461.2 yards per game, most of which come through the air. The No. 24 nationally ranked team is averaging nearly 300 passing yards in each of their game while their running game is putting up a respectable 168.2. Defensively NC State allots 23.4 points to their opponent and usually gives up around 370.4 yards in each contest. The Wolfpack is much better against the run than the pass as they are only giving up an average of 85.6 rushing yards to 284.8 passing yards.
