Houston Cougars vs. Tulane Green Wave NCAAF Betting Odds & Picks

At the beginning of his arrival at Houston, Dana Holgorsen was celebrated as a savior. Holgorsen may have coached in West Virginia but he has maintained a residence in H-Town. In view of that and his reputation as an offensive mastermind, immediate college football betting success was expected. Instead, the Cougars are off to a sluggish start. This from a school that has an administration that brags about firing coaches that fail to win 10 games. Tulane will be a tough opponent for Houston. Indeed, the Green Wave is one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the country.
Houston Cougars vs. Tulane Green Wave
Houston enters this game with a record of 1-2 straight up, 2-1 vs. the odds, and 0-2-1 under the total. Last week was a 31-24 home loss to Washington State. Wazzu outgained the Cougars 489-367. Offensive production was a disappointment. Namely, D’Eriq King threw for only 128 yards and a single touchdown pass in the defeat. Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon lit up the Houston defense for 440 yards and 3 touchdowns. Holgorsen is yet to get the Cougars offense ignited. Of great concern is a defense ranked 122nd in the nation overall.
Players to Watch: QB D’Eriq King (434 YDS, 55% COMP, 5.6 AVG, 4 TD, 1 INT, 116.4 RTG, 38 RSH, 196 YDS, 5.2 YPC, 5 TD), RB Kyle Porter (42 RSH, 213 YDS, 5.1 YPC, 1 TD, 3 REC, 30 YDS, 10.0 YPC, 1 TD), WR Keith Corbin (8 REC, 144 YDS, 18.0 YPC, 1 TD), WR Marquez Stevenson (15 REC, 139 YDS, 9.3 YPC, 2 TD), PK Dalton Witherspoon (11-11 XP, 5-6 FG)
Tulane Green Wave
Balanced against Houston is a Tulane team that is 2-1 both straight up and with the odds and 1-2 under the total. Missouri State was annihilated at Tulane in a week 3 58-6 loss. Tulane outgained the Bears 540-182. And ran for 298 yards with 5.7 yards per carry. Specifically, head coach Willie Fritz has transformed the Green Wave program into one of the most fundamentally sound in the country. Tulane ranks 25th overall for defense and 19th for rushing yards gained. The days of the Green Wave being a directionless automatic loss program are over.
Players to Watch: QB Justin McMillan (424 YDS, 55% COMP, 6.3 AVG, 2 TD, 2 INT, 112.2 RTG, 25 RSH, 154 YDS, 6.2 YPC, 3 TD), RB Darius Bradwell (34 RSH, 142 YDS, 4.2 YPC, 0 TD), WR Darnell Mooney (12 REC, 183 YDS, 15.3 YPC, 1 TD), PK Merek Glover (11-11 XP, 3-3 FG)
