Hawaii Rainbow Warriors
The Rainbow Warriors are coming off a 3-9 record and will undoubtedly be looking for a better year in 2018. Considering that it’s been 8-years since Hawaii has reigned in a winning season, last year’s fallout comes as no surprise. In the end, Hawaii posted a 1-7 record in Mountain West conference play to finish second to last in the West Division. Naturally, Hawaii did not get a chance at the conference championship nor did they get any invites to Bowl Games. The Rainbow Warriors did however, close out the season with a 5-game losing streak. Clearly the program is more than thrilled about beginning the 2018 season. At the very least they’ll have an opportunity to make up for last season’s shortcomings.
Players to Watch: Dru Brown (2,785 passing yards, 18 TD, 8 INT), Diocemy Saint Juste (1,510 rushing yards, 7 TD, 5.4 AVG), and John Ursua (667 receiving yards, 5 TD, 47 REC).
Colorado State Rams
The Rams turned in a 7-6 record last season. Included in their performance was a 5-3 record in Mountain West Conference play. That conference record led to a 2nd place seeding in the Mountain Division for the Rams. Boise Sate ended up beating the Rams for the No. 1 spot in the Mountain Division, but the Rams were extremely close to making the conference championship. And although they missed out on the Mountain West championship, Colorado State did get an invitation to the New Mexico Bowl. Marshall ended up being the Rams opponent in that matchup. Although they gave it their all, the Rams came up short 28-31. Nevertheless, Colorado State has enough returning pieces to be a threat in the division once again this year.
Players to Watch: KJ Carta-Samuels (82 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT), Izzy Matthews (613 rushing yards, 8 TD, 4.6 AVG), and Olabisi Johnson (595 receiving yards, 2 TD, 41 REC).
