Marshall Thundering Herd

The Thundering Herd stormed their way to an 8-4 record this season. Included in that tally was a 6-2 performance in C-USA play that saw them finish 2nd overall in the East division. All in all the season had its up and downs, one being pretty recent. In fact the Thundering Herd had a 3-game winning streak snapped by Vermont in their final game of the season 41-20. That’s certainly no way to end a year’s long effort and Marshall is hopeful that the Gasparilla Bowl will help them turn things around. Looking over the numbers, it’s clear that the program can turn to their defense to edge out a win. Currently giving up 22.0 per game, Marshall’s defense is significantly better than USF’s – who give up about 31.5 per game. Offensively things are a bit even with the Thundering Herd averaging 27.4 and the Bulls 29.2.

Players to Watch: Isaiah Green (2,238 passing yards, 15 TD, 10 INT), Tyler King (655 rushing yards, 4 TD, 6.1 AVG), and Tyre Brady (914 receiving yards, 9 TD, 66 REC).

South Florida Bulls

The Bulls enter this years’ Gasparilla Bowl sporting a 7-5 record. This saw them finish 4th overall in the American Athletic East, thanks to their rather pitiful 3-5 record in conference play. Although they kicked the season off with 7 straight wins, the Bulls quickly lost steam and lost their final 5 games consecutively. Now the club is frantic to turn things around and deliver a solid performance in the Gasparilla Bowl. However, judging by their current 5 game losing streak, bettors shouldn’t hold their breaths in anticipation.

Players to Watch: Blake Barnett (2,493 passing yards, 11 TD, 1 INT), Jordan Cronkrite (1,095 rushing yards, 9 TD, 6.3 AVG), and Tyre McCants (607 receiving yards, 3 TD, 58 REC).
