BYU Cougars vs. Tennessee Volunteers NCAAF Betting Spread & Pick

Above all Tennessee’s betting on college football home loss to Georgia State was the most noteworthy of the weekend. It has already been called the worst loss in the history of the storied Volunteer program. The 38-30 debacle stunned gamblers that laid 24.5 points on Big Orange. Now doubts about the ability of second-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt are growing rapidly. Tennessee was flat as a pancake and played like robots. In the same way, BYU is coming off a disappointing home loss to Utah. Losing to the Utes is no disgrace but the “Holy War” matchup matters greatly.

Last week BYU suffered a 30-12 home loss to Utah as five-point dogs. The Cougars were outgained 386-300 and suffered a 30-12 first down disadvantage. Quarterback Zach Wilson brings personality and energy but little in results. By reason of Kalani Sitake being in his fourth year as head coach is the pressure on. Progress has been slow. As an example, a 7-6 record last year is not what fans have in mind. Sitake has been unable to get reliable offensive production in his time at Provo. To begin with, BYU was once heralded as a quarterback factory.
Players to Watch: QB Zach Wilson (208 YDS, 63.6% COMP. 6.3 AVG, 0 TD, 2 INT, 104.5 RTG, 43 YRSH, 5.4 YPC, 0 TD), RB Ty’Son Williams (45 YDS, 6.4 AVG, 1 TD), TE Matt Bushman (6 REC, 62 YDS, 10.3 YPC, 0 TD), WR Aleva Hifo (4 REC, 40 YDS, 10.0 YPC, 0 TD)
At the onset, Tennessee’s 38-30 loss to Georgia State was no fluke. UT outgained the Panthers only 404-352. By the end of the game, Georgia State was manhandling the stunned Volunteers. Of great concern is that the Panthers are rated as one of the worst Sun Belt Conference teams. All of which makes the Vols defeat so alarming to fans and gamblers. Equally worrisome was the erratic play of quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. Namely, new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney was signed away from Georgia for big money to put points on the board.
Players to Watch: QB Jarrett Guarantano (311 YDS, 65% COMP, 7.8 AVG, 2 TD, 1 INT, 141.8 RTG), RB Ty Chandler (48 YDS, 8.0 YPC, 1 TD), Eric Gray (29 YDS, 4.1 YPC, 0 TD, 6 REC, 51 YDS, 8.5 YPC), WR Juan Jennings (7 REC, 108 YDS, 15.4 YPC, 1 TD, TE Dominick Wood Anderson (3 REC, 79 YDS, 26.3 YPC, 0 TD),

In this situation, Tennessee and Pruitt are playing for their lives. BYU could prove to be a live sportsbook value. However, Tennessee has the talent and motivational advantage. If ever a team will bring a full effort Tennessee is that program on Saturday. Fashion the highly-rated recruiting classes by Pruitt. Certainly, the talent is there to get the season back on track. Alternatively, BYU is not a good offensive team. For this reason, it would be premature to write off Tennessee. It would be hard to fathom the Vols being so bad two weeks in a row.
Score Prediction: Tennessee 24, BYU 14
