NCAA College Football Betting Odds:
The Cougars are coming off a massively disappointing 4-9 season that saw the program finish the worst out of the 4 independent programs in the nation. In fact, the season was so poor that BYU considered joining a conference in an attempt to get a bone. Of course that’s a joke, but all levities aside the program needs to bring about some serious change in 2018.Kalani Sitake was brought in to turn things around in 2016. And although he had a good debut, turning in 9-4 record, that all went downhill last season. It’s a bit of a stretch to say that he’s on the hot seat. But if he doesn’t deliver a winning season this year, he might just be.
Players to Watch: Tanner Mangum (1,540 passing yards, 8 TD, 9 INT), Squally Canada (710 rushing yards, 6 TD, 5.9 AVG), and Matt Bushman (520 receiving yards, 3 TD, 49 REC).
The Wildcats turned in a 7-6 season last year. This was a pretty big step up from the meager 3-9 record the program had turned in the previous year. Furthermore, Arizona was able to achieve a 3rd place ranking in the South Division of the conference due to their 5-4 Pac-12 record. Although they missed out on the conference championship, Arizona did receive an invite to the Foster Farms Bowl. There they would face Purdue in a 35-38 losing effort. With that loss, the Wildcats closed out the season with a 3-game losing streak. Rich Rodriguez, the Wildcats head coach in 2017, was fired in January of this year. Not because of that 3-game losing streak to close out the season, but rather for some rather embarrassing news. Rodriguez was involved in a lawsuit by a former assistant alleging sexual abuse. He was promptly fired and Kevin Sumlin will step in for the 2018 season.
Players to Watch: Khalil Tate (1,591 passing yards, 14 TD, 9 INT), JJ Taylor (847 rushing yards, 5 TD, 5.8 AVG), and Tony Ellison (598 receiving yards, 5 TD, 37 REC).
