It was a welcomed start to Philip Montgomery’s second year as head coach, especially after going 6-7 in his first. Neither school is in a Power Five conference, but beating your opponent by 5 possessions is always something that you can hang your hat on. Tulsa finished the day with an impressive showing on offense racking up 512 yards and 5 touchdowns, 4 of which came on the ground. The defense wasn’t too shabby either; they only let up 287 yards and forced 3 turnovers, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Buckeyes would finish the day with 7 passing touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns, and 1 defensive score. Their performance was so commanding that they now rank as a Top 5 team, which is even more noteworthy when considering they didn’t face a Top 25 team.
