One of the best football betting surprises we saw this past weekend was when the Ohio State Buckeyes put up 11 touchdowns on the Bowling Green Falcons. There’s no denying the Buckeyes rolled in as the heavy favorites, but 11 touchdowns is still an amazing feat. In fact their routing of Bowling Green was so impressive that they rose to the No. 4 ranking in the nation. Now with the added pressure of being a playoff contender, the Buckeyes will continue to set themselves by putting up another brilliant performance against their next opponent, the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes are coming off an intense routing themselves, beating the San Jose State Spartans 45-10. It was a welcomed start to Philip Montgomery’s second year as head coach, especially after going 6-7 in his first. Neither school is in a Power Five conference, but beating your opponent by 5 possessions is always something that you can hang your hat on. Tulsa finished the day with an impressive showing on offense racking up 512 yards and 5 touchdowns, 4 of which came on the ground. The defense wasn’t too shabby either; they only let up 287 yards and forced 3 turnovers, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown. Every betting sportsbook in the world thought that Tulsa’s performance was breathtaking, until they compared it to Ohio State’s opener.
To start the season Ohio looked dominant on paper, in the highlights, and on both sides of the ball. The offense finished the day with a whopping 776 yards of total offense. JT Barrett accounted for 1 rushing touchdown and a staggering 6 passing touchdowns – 7 if you count the one Bowling Green picked off and returned for 6. The Buckeyes defense made sure the Falcons’ defensive touchdown would be the only touchdown they scored in the game, holding them to 244 yards and even avenging Barrett by picking of Bowling Green’s quarterback and taking it to the house. The Buckeyes would finish the day with 7 passing touchdowns, 3 rushing touchdowns, and 1 defensive score. Their performance was so commanding that they now rank as a Top 5 team, which is even more noteworthy when considering they didn’t face a Top 25 team.
With one excellent performance in their pocket, the Buckeyes will now turn to the rest of their schedule. Next in line are the Golden Hurricanes, let’s check the football betting odds to see what they have to say about this pairing.
Week 2: September 10th
Tulsa +28 ½ (-110) 73 (-110) +3250
Ohio State -28 ½ (-110) 73 (-110) -7500
It’s safe to say that Ohio State are the heavy favorites in this matchup. Tulsa’s offense had their way with San Jose State, but it’s unlikely that they’ll enjoy any success against a much fiercer Buckeyes defense. Fans can expect the Buckeyes to continue to impress the nation on their way to the playoffs. Barrett will likely have another fantastic day but will be focusing on throwing a pick-less game. In the end fans might want to side with the lopsided football betting odds on this one.
