The Best D-Lines in College Football BettingPosted by: Mike Davis
The college football betting season will be here closer than you can imagine. With the season looming over the horizon, players have begun to analyze the schedule in order to find any potential games worth betting on.
Of course, knowing which teams to bet on is the most important thing. And one of the biggest factors that set one team apart from another is the defensive line. The football odds understand that perfectly and bettors should too.
The defensive line can control the tempo of the game. It can impale a team’s ability to run the ball, which gives the other team an advantage with time management. Likewise, it can also pressure the quarterback, making passing the ball extremely tough. If a team can disrupt the running game early in the match, and keep the other team from mounting a comeback by impeding their passing game, the contest is all but won. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at which defensive lines sports betting sites consider to be the best in the nation.
No. 1 – Clemson Tigers
The reigning National Champs made a lot of headlines toward the end of last season, and most of them involved Deshaun Watson’s ransacking of the Crimson Tide. However, not enough can be said about the strong group the Tigers wield at the defensive line, made up of Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence – three of the best D-linemen in the nation.
There’s no doubt that’s a ferocious trio, and there’s even fewer doubts that Lawrence is the top dog. At 6’5’, 346 lbs., Lawrence is a force to be reckoned with. Lawrence posted 62 tackles and 6 ½ sacks in his freshman year, and college football betting players are expecting an even stronger outing this time around. Needless to say, Lawrence has the making of a No. 1 overall selection.
No. 2 – Ohio State Buckeyes
It might be a little tougher to choose the best defensive linemen on Ohio State’s roster than it was for Clemson. Trying to pick Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, or Nick Bosa over each other is practically unfeasible. All three will make the NFL and all 3 will likely go in the first round.
Lewis might be better known than the other two, due to winning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year last season, thanks to the 10 ½ tackles for loss and 8 sacks he posted. Hubbard and Bosa have high ceilings as well and it will be interesting to see just how far Ohio State can take these guys, or rather: how far these guys can take Ohio State.
No. 3 – Florida State Seminoles
Derrick Nnadi is the best player on the line, but college football betting sites have a good feeling about Josh Sweat. Nnadi is someone offenses will be keying on, and with DeMarcus Walker’s departure, players can expect Sweat to improve on his 7 sacks last season. Especially since Brian Burns will be weakening offenses on the other side.
The combination of Nnadi in the middle, with Sweat and Burns on the outside pegs the Seminoles as one of the best defensive units in the nation. Florida State is one team you’ll want to bet on in 2017.
