Best College Football Betting Spread Options for Week 1

Posted by: Anthony Yaylor

The college football betting season is upon us. In a couple of weeks, NCAA betting players will be skimming through online sportsbooks in an attempt to find the best possible line with the highest possible value. But there’s no need to wait until the season actually kicks off. Instead, players can bet on college football Week 1’s action as early as today.

Finding the right line to bet on is key to enjoying success in college football betting. One of the easiest ways to maximize your chances is by betting the spread. Wagering on the spread gives bettors a little extra wiggle room to squeeze out a winning bet.

So, for Week 1’s college football betting action, what are the best spread betting options available?

Stanford vs. Rice – Saturday, August 26th

When: 10:00 pm ET

Where: Allianz Stadium, Sydney, Australia

TV: ESPN

Stream: ESPN Live

College Football Betting Odds:

Stanford -30 ½ (-110)

Rice +30 ½ (-110)

The Rice Owls posted a 3-9 record last season and have absolutely, positively zero chance of upsetting the NCAA betting favorites Stanford, even if they are facing them all the way out in Australia. This is the beauty of spread betting however, where a mediocre team can make a promising opportunity for sportsbook players.

Although Rice doesn’t have the best defense, the same can be said about Stanford’s offense – at least in terms of their explosiveness. Bottom line, it’s hard to imagine them covering a 30-point spread, especially since they failed to cover a near identical line last season.

Akron vs. Penn State – Saturday, September 2nd

When: 12:00 pm ET

Where: Beaver Stadium, University Park, Pennsylvania

TV: ESPN

Stream: ESPN Live

College Football Betting Odds:

Akron +33 (-110)

Penn State -33 (-110)

Penn State enters this year’s season with two potential Heisman candidates: running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Trace McSorley. With those two leading their offense, the Nittany Lions should have little difficulty in delivering a breakout season. However, it stands to reason that they’ll have a hard time covering this 33-point spread. Sure, Akron doesn’t have what you’d call a top-ten defense, but they should still be able to stop an onslaught from Penn State. On top of that,

Louisville vs. Purdue – Saturday, September 2nd

When: 7:30 pm ET

Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana

TV: Fox

Stream: ESPN Live

College Football Betting Odds:

Louisville -25 (-110)

Purdue +25 (-110)

Louisville’s quarterback, Lamar Jackson, enters this year’s season as the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Accounting for that high praise, Jackson should have little difficulty covering the 4-touchdown spread, especially at home in Week 1 against a Purdue team that barely won three games in 2016.

Not only is Jackson near unstoppable, the rest of their offense isn’t half bad either. Throw in the fact that the Cardinals have posted a 3-1 record against the spread in their last four games in which they were the favorites by 22+ points, and you have one of the best college football betting wagers for Week 1.
