2018 Belk Bowl Betting Preview

If you’re looking for a battle between a great offense and a stellar defense then this Saturday’s Belk Bowl is the matchup for you. This year’s NCAA football betting action will pit Virginia against South Carolina, giving us a matchup we can all tune in for. The Cavaliers found their success behind their 24th ranked defense that kindly rewarded their fans with an 8-4 ATS record this season. On the flip side, South Carolina needed an offense that was capable of gaining the 24th most yards in the nation in order to even out their rather poor, 92nd ranked defense. South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks ride into this Saturday’s Bowl Game sporting a 7-5 record. With a 4-4 record in SEC play this season, South Carolina managed to finish 4-4 overall in the East Division of the conference. Although they didn’t have a shot at the SEC Championship Game, they did manage to dip their feet into some postseason action thanks to the Belk Bowl. Looking over the numbers, it becomes surprising to see the NCAA football betting odds favor South Carolina so heavily. Currently averaging 32.6 per game, there’s no denying that they do have an edge over Virginia’s offense that scores 28.5. However, the Cavaliers might have a more substantial edge on defense as they’re only giving up 21.8 while South Carolina allots 27.2

Players to Watch: Jake Bentley (2,953 passing yards, 27 TD, 12 INT), Rico Dowdle (633 rushing yards, 5 TD, 5.4 AVG), and Deebo Samuel (882 rushing yards, 11 TD, 62 REC).

Virginia Cavaliers

The Cavaliers ride into this Saturday’s Belk Bowl contest sporting a 7-5 record. With a 4-4 record in ACC play this season, Virginia managed to finish 3rd overall in the Coastal Division of the conference. Eager to add another win to their season, Virginia has a lot to prove this weekend. Although Virginia’s defensive numbers are formidable, there’s no denying that those digits came against weaker opposition. Having faced one nationally ranked opponent this season, there’s no guarantee the Cavs shut down SC’s explosiveness. They faced a pretty good offense in North Carolina State and suffered a 35-21 loss. Now all eyes will be on them to upset the Gamecocks, who most are pegging as an easy bet.

Players to Watch: Bryce Perkins (2,472 passing yards, 22 TD, 9 INT), Jordan Ellis (920 rushing yards, 9 TD, 4.9 AVG), and Olamide Zaccheaus (958 receiving yards, 6 TD, 81 REC).
