The Badgers finished the year with a brilliant 12-1 record. Included in that 12-1 record is a 9-0 conference record which saw the Badgers finish 1st in the Big Ten – West division. Naturally, with that type of performance, Wisconsin earned an invite to this year’s Big Ten Championship. However, once there, the Badgers would suffer a 21-27 close loss to No. 8 Ohio State. Nevertheless, it was a brilliant matchup that ultimately has given this year’s Badgers even more motivation to go out and end the season on a high note. The sportsbook odds are decisively siding with Wisconsin in the 2017 Orange Bowl.
Part of the reason that the odds have made up their mind is due to the fact that Wisconsin has a significant statistical advantage in this matchup. Specifically, the Badgers have a better scoring offense since they are putting up an average of 33.8 points per game. Comparatively, the Hurricanes are scoring 29.5 themselves. It’s very much the same story on defense since Wisconsin gives up an average of 13.2 while the Hurricanes allot 19.9. It’s a slight advantage, but ultimately one that Wisconsin should take full advantage of.
The Hurricanes sped their way to a 10-2 record this season. Integral to that record was a 7-1 conference record that saw Miami finish 1st overall in the ACC’s Coastal division. Obviously that No. 1 ranking got the Hurricanes an invite to this year’s ACC championship game. In the confere4nce’s title match, the Hurricanes faced No. 1 Clemson. Against the best program in the nation, Miami fell short 3-38. Undoubtedly this massive landslide of a finish has convinced football game odds that Miami doesn’t stand a chance in this year’s Orange Bowl.
The odds are favoring the Badgers pretty heavily, so there’s not much value in taking Wisconsin on the money line. Alternatively, bettors can take Wisconsin on the spread. The Badgers have a respectable 8-5 record against the spread this season, which is much better than the Hurricanes 5-7 ATS record. The spread is set at 7 points with a much better payout, undoubtedly making this the superior betting choice for this bowl game matchup. The over/under isn’t as good of a choice in this one since the Hurricanes are 2-10 against the totals line.
