Let’s take a gander at what kind of straight bets college football players can make on this Saturday’s pairing between Western Kentucky and Georgia State.
2017 Cure Bowl – Western Kentucky vs. Georgia St. – Sat., Dec. 16th

Football Bowl Game Odds:
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers -7 (+110) 52 ½ (-110) -250
Georgia State Panthers +7 (-130) 52 ½ (-110) +210
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers finished the 2017 regular season with a 6-6 record that saw the program finish 3rd in the C-USA-East. The Hilltoppers had a relatively mediocre record this season, but one that nevertheless kept Western Kentucky at .500 on the year. Ultimately the Hilltoppers performed well enough to garner an invitation into the 2017 Cure Bowl. But that’s despite closing the season out with a 41-17 loss to the Florida International Golden Panthers. Lastly, Western Kentucky enters this bowl game as the football betting book favorite.
While some fans might be eager to take a shot on the underdog Georgia State, there’s really nothing to suggest that the Panthers can pull off the upset this weekend. Furthermore, neither team has had much luck against the spread this season. In particular; the Hilltoppers are 3-9 against the spread while the Panthers are 4-7. In this situation, bettors should take the totals line. Both teams have capable offenses and below-average defenses.
Georgia State Panthers
The Georgia State Panthers turned in a 6-5 performance this season to finish 4th in the Sun Belt conference. One of the most notable aspects of this year’s Panthers is the fact that they opened the season with back to back losses and finished the season with back to back losses as well. Georgia State is facing some pretty steep football bowl game odds in this matchup, which are no different from the odds the Panthers have faced all season. However, the numbers suggest that Georgia State isn’t that different from Western Kentucky.
The Hilltoppers average 26.2 points per game, which is significantly higher than the 19.7 that Georgia State is currently putting up. However, things are much closer on defense. Western Kentucky allows 26.8 points per game while the panthers are allotting 25.5. That slight difference isn’t enough to cover for the stark contrast in each programs’ offense, but it’s still close enough to make you question the money line. What’s more, both teams are coming off losses so you can’t really take momentum into account when wagering on this one. To that end, bettors might be better off betting on the over/under for the 2017 Cure Bowl.
