Bowl Spreads College Football:
Stanford Cardinal +2 ½ (EV) 49 (-110) +125
TCU Horned Frogs -2 ½ (-120) 49 (-110) -145
No. 13 Stanford finished the regular season with a 9-4 record that gave way to a 1st place ranking in the Pac – 12 North. That brilliant finish earned the Cardinal an invite to the 2017 Pac-12 Championship game. Once there, Stanford gave it their all but ultimately fell short against No. 11 USC 28-31. It was a tough matchup that ended up putting a sour mark on the 3-game win streak the Cardinal had mounted at the end of the regular season. Pegged as the college football betting underdog once more, Stanford is undoubtedly thrilled about the chance to finish 2017 on a high note.
Both of these teams match up pretty well, which comes as no surprise considering both of their rankings. However, No. 15 TCU has a slight advantage on the offensive side of the ball. The Cardinal is currently putting up 32.0 while the Horned Frogs are averaging 33.2. Defensively it’s a similar story as Stanford gives up 21.5 while TCU allots 17.6.
TCU Horned Frogs
No. 15 TCU delivered a 10-3 record for the 2017 regular season. That praiseworthy performance saw the Horned Frogs finish 2nd in the Big 12 Standings. Additionally, that stellar finish earned TCU a ticket to this year’s Big 12 Championship. Unfortunately, the Horned Frogs would leap to a lopsided 17-41 pummeling at the hands of No. 3 Oklahoma. It’s certainly not the way TCU was hoping to finish the 2017 season. Nonetheless, the 2017 Alamo Bowl affords the Horned Frogs the opportunity to ride out into the sunset with a pleasant finish. The best Vegas sportsbooks are giving TCU a fighting chance in this year’s Alamo Bowl since the spread line is set at 2 ½ points. So what chance does TCU stand of covering the spread?
Well, a look at the Horned Frogs’ 2017 ATS record will reveal that TCU will likely fall short of that spread prediction. TCU is sitting on a 7-6 against the spread record this season, which is slightly better than Stanford’s 6-6-1 record. Neither of these records inspires much confidence on players looking to bet on the spread. Likewise, the over/under line is pretty muddy on this one since the Cardinal are 6-7 against the totals line while the Horned Frogs are 3-9.
