Virginia vs. Miami Basketball Matchup Breakdown (NCAA Basketball Betting)Posted by: Anthony Yaylor
The 2018 NCAA basketball betting season continues this evening with a riveting Virginia vs. Miami basketball matchup. The Cavaliers enter this evening’s matchup ranked No. 1 in the nation but are coming off a massively disappointing loss to the unranked Virginia Tech Hokies. On the other hand, Miami will be looking to knock off the top dog in the conference on home court tonight. Let’s see what kind of chances sportsbook betting sites are giving the Hurricanes of beating the top team in the nation this evening.
Virginia vs. Miami Basketball – Tuesday, February 13th
When: 9:00 pm ET
Where: Watsco Center, Coral Gables, Florida
Stream: Watch ESPN
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines:
Virginia Cavaliers -5 ½ (-110) 119 (-110) -240
Miami Hurricanes +5 ½ (-110) 119 (-110) +200
As aforementioned, the Cavs are coming off a 60-61 loss to the Hokies that marked the program’s second loss of the season. At 23-2, there’s no question that Virginia is one of the best programs in the country. However, after falling to an unranked opponent, it’s more than likely that Virginia will suffer a dip in the national rankings. Nevertheless, the Cavs are unlikely to fall in the ACC’s standings, since they have an outstanding 12-1 conference record. That stunning record gives Virginia a 2 ½ game lead over their nearest competition. As for tonight’s matchup, let’s take a look at how well the Cavs match up against the Hurricanes before diving into some NCAA basketball betting predictions.
Surprisingly enough, Miami is actually scoring more points per game than Virginia. Specifically, the Hurricanes 75.5 points per game average is significantly better than the 68 the Cavs deliver each night. However, the Cavaliers manage to win games by keeping their opponents from scoring points – and there’s no one better in the nation at that than Virginia.
The Hurricanes zip into this Tuesday night matchup sporting an 18-6 record that ranks them as the 6th best team in the ACC. So far this season Miami has posted a 7-5 record in conference play which places them 4 ½ games behind the conference-leading Cavaliers. Miami got off to a great start this season as the program won the first 10 games of the season. However, shortly afterwards, the Hurricanes would hit a bit of a slump. It’s safe to say that the team has rebounded since then as Miami is 3-1 in their last 4 matchups. However, the Hurricanes are coming off a 70-72 loss to the Boston College Eagles that’s certainly deterred their momentum. By the looks of it, the 4 team parlay odds are predicting another loss for Miami this evening. Should sportsbook bettors second that sentiment? Or is there great value to be found on the upset line this evening?
All things considered, taking Miami on the upset line isn’t a terrible idea. The Cavaliers have been having a great season but they’re certainly starting to show some kinks in their armor. Accounting for the fact that Miami will be looking to rebound from a tough loss, and that they’ll have home court advantage this evening, and it’s pretty clear that taking Miami is the way to go this evening.
