Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders have pummeled their competition so far this tournament. In fact, they manhandled Northern Kentucky 57-72 in the opening round and followed that up with a 78-58 win over 6th seeded Buffalo. Notwithstanding that dominance, the NCAA basketball betting odds are pegging Texas Tech as an underdog here. Apparently the bookies believe that Michigan’s run in the tournament has been more impressive than Texas Tech’s. Looking over the numbers however, it’s clear that this will be a tight matchup.

At the present time Texas Tech is averaging 73-2 points per game while Michigan is delivering 70.6. Defensively things are a tad bit more lopsided with the Red Raiders allotting 57.5 and the Wolverines giving up 52.0. With both teams sporting stellar defenses, this could turn into a defensive powerhouse. Look for the Red Raiders to try to get their points within the arc tonight while the Wolverines will opt for the three-pointer with greater frequency.

Players to Watch: Jarrett Culver (18.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 3.8 apg), Davide Moretti (11.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Matt Mooney (10.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.4 apg).

Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines are coming off a huge 64-49 win over Florida and will be looking to build on that success tonight. All in all Michigan has been unchallenged so far in the tournament and it’ll be interesting to see what Texas Tech is able to do to them. As aforementioned the Wolverines like to turn to their shooting for their points, particularly outside of the arc. Notwithstanding their season long success, this should put them at a disadvantage this evening. This is because Texas Tech sports a 36.8 defensive shooting percentage while Michigan’s opponents are able to drain 39.6 of their shots. At any rate Michigan should be able to counter this by rebounding. Right now they’re grabbing 35.3 per game which should help create more scoring opportunities tonight.

Players to Watch: Ignas Brazdeikis (14.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 0.9 apg), Jordan Poole (12.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Charles Matthews (12.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg).
