NCAA Basketball Update: Tigers Set to Get Jaykwon Walton

Tigers set to get Jaykwon Walton

Tigers Set to Get Jaykwon Walton – The Memphis Tigers are the top favorites to acquire forward Jaykwon Walton via transfer. Reports said that Walton will be immediately be eligible for the American Athletic Conference squad as a graduate transfer. Memphis, who finished the season at 26-9 (13-5 in AAC) are looking to defend the AAC title and bounce back from their first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament. Acquiring the 6-foot-7 Walton would help the Tigers strengthen their bid for the 2023-24 season and bring them back to relevance in online NCAA betting sites.

Tigers Set to Get Jaykwon Walton – Solid Figures in Wichita State

The forward averaged 13.9 points per game, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists last season while playing for Wichita State. He shot 53.5% from the field and 78.1% from the free-throw line. He shot 40% from the three-point area. Walton began his college basketball career at Georgia where he played for two seasons. After this, he committed and transferred to Wichita State and played for one season. The forward recruit is expected to enhance Memphis’ lineup as they strive to continue their impressive surge in the 2022-23 season and successfully defend the AAC title.

Kansas State Nets Former New Mexico State Forward in Transfer Portal

Kansas State has secured the commitment of Providence forward Will McNair Jr. The 6-foot-11 McNair entered the transfer portal before committing to the Wildcats. Due to this ruling, he will be eligible for Kansas State for the 2023-24 season. He started his college basketball career at New Mexico State and played for three seasons. After the 2021-22 season, McNair entered the transfer portal and Mississippi State picked him up, where he played for one season. In his stint with the Bulldogs, McNair posted averages of 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds on 45.2% shooting from the field and 57.7% accuracy from the free throw stripe. He served as a starter for Mississippi State.

Possible Off-the-Bench Contributor

McNair is expected to come off the bench for the Wildcats while providing key depth in the frontcourt. Last season, Kansas State finished with a 26-10 win-loss record and 11-7 in Big 12 Conference action. The Wildcats lost to Texas Christian University in the first round of the Conference tournament. Kansas State made a run to the Elite Eight before losing to Florida Atlantic in the 2022-23 season.

Jun Seok Yeo to Help Gonzaga’s Bench Depth

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are expected to have depth in their 2023-24 NCAA campaign with the acquisition of 6-foot-8 forward Jun Seok Yeo. Yeo, who comes from South Korea through the Global Academy, has been a reliable contributor for the South Korean cage squad in the 2021 FIBA U-19 World Cup. He produced a double-double of 25.6 points and 10.6 rebounds an outing. This included a 36-point outburst against Japan. The Bulldogs have a great track record with international player recruitment over the years.

The last time Gonzaga developed an Asian star was Rui Hachimura of Japan and he now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association. Yeo is set to be a backup small forward behind Steele Venters. Top-50 freshman guard Dusty Stromer and projected sixth man Ben Gregg will spearhead the bench attack for the Bulldogs. They anticipate Yeo to be a perfect fit as a small forward, substituting for Venters. He needs to make his presence felt for the team to secure consistent minutes off the bench this season.

Doryan Onwuchekwa Commits with the Buffaloes

Three-star center prospect Doryan Onwuchekwa has expressed his commitment to play for Colorado in the 2024-25 season. The Buffaloes expect the 6-foot-10 cager to play the center position because they lost Lawson Lowering to the transfer portal and anticipate losing Eddie Lampkin Jr, who is set to transfer to Texas Christian University. Scouting reports are giving Omuchekwa rave reviews, with most of them saying that he has the size to be a good interior defender and his offense is developing quite nicely. Before the decision, Onwuchekwa announced that other schools interested for his services include TCU, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Xavier.

The Buffaloes were in need of a big man as Joel Hurlburt remains as a doubtful commodity after not playing the 2022-23 season. Colorado will have a back-up plan in Onwuchekwa, who will try to make an early impact and carve out a rotation spot once he plays. They are also in the running for getting Top-100 power forward prospect Robert Miller as a replacement for star forward Tristan da Silva. If they acquired the services of Miller, it will affect Onwuchekwa’s minutes but the Bulldogs will secure an awesome combination that will give sports oddsmakers something to think about while betting in the collegiate basketball ranks.
