Michigan St Spartans
The Spartans finished last year’s college basketball betting season with a 30-5 record. Included in last year’s performance was a 16-2 record in Big Ten play. This lead to a 1st place overall ranking in the Big Ten, which naturally led to an invite to the conference tournament near the end of the season. In the quarterfinals, the Spartans would face No. 9 Wisconsin and narrowly avoided elimination 63-60. Afterwards we saw Michigan State fall short against Michigan 64-75 in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. This was not the finish the program was vying for and ultimately they were unable to shake off the blues. Once the NCAA Tournament rolled around, the Spartans would advance to the 2nd round thanks to an 82-78 first round triumph over Bucknell. Unfortunately for the Spartans, that’s as far as they would get as Syracuse would pull off the upset 53-55. Now the Spartans look to kick the season off with a little upset of their own.
Players to Watch: Matt McQuaid (Senior, G), Kenny Goins (Senior, F), and Braden Burke (Sophomore, F).
The Jayhawks are coming off a highly successful 31-8 season. In addition, Kansas posted a 13-5 record in Big 12 play which led to a No. 1 overall ranking in the conference. Once the conference tournament rolled around, Kansas managed to go undefeated and won the entire show. The quarterfinals saw them dominant Oklahoma State 82-68. Afterwards Kansas beat up Kansas State 83-67 in the semis before advancing to the championship round. There they faced West Virginia in a n 81-70 winning effort. Unfortunately for Kansas, they were unable to duplicate that success in the NCAA Tournament. Although they made it all the way to the Final Four, Villanova would get the best of them there beating them in brutal fashion 79-95. Now Kansas is ready to avenge that humbling defeat and it start this upcoming Tuesday night.
Players to Watch: Lagerald Vick (Senior, G), Dedric Lawson (Junior, F), and Udoka Azubuike (Junior, C).
