As the March Madness betting tournament keeps rolling on, sportsbook players keep racking up the winnings. We’ve reached the Sweet Sixteen round of the competition, and the road has been much more exceptional than anticipated. Seeing Nova and North Carolina lose in the same weekend so early in the tournament was unexpected to see the least, but seeing Duke and Florida State lose in the same weekend was unimaginable.

There’s no doubt that those upset losses also hurt the pockets of sportsbook players, or anyone placing college basketball bets. The probability of successfully predicting all those upsets was slim to none. So, as we prepare to approach the second weekend of the tournament, players can begin to eye up matchups that could help bettors recover from such an upset-laden First Round.
Since so many of the usual favorites have gotten eliminated, most eyes across the nation will shift to Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are generally considered to be the best team left in the tournament, and everyone will want to see if the Zags are the next team to suffer a March Madness betting upset. Gonzaga will face off against West Virginia this upcoming Thursday.

The Bulldogs were anxious to get back into the NCAA Tournament, after last year’s run was snuffed short in the Sweet Sixteen round by Syracuse. This season, Gonzaga put on one of the most impressive win streaks we’ve seen in some time and come into this matchup flashing a 34-1 record. In the WCC Tournament, Gonzaga rode past their competition, beating St. Mary’s in the championship match.
Thursday night, the Bulldogs will turn to leading point-scorer Nigel Williams-Goss to lead them against West Virginia. Williams-Goss is currently averaging 16.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per contest. Second in points for the Zags is Przemek Karnowski who is draining 12.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.
West Virginia Mountaineers
In last year’s NCAA Tournament, the Mountaineers were unable to advance past the First Round, but this year it’s a different story. West Virginia enters their contest against the Bulldogs with a 28-8 record. The Mountaineers delivered an exceptional performance in the Big 12 Tournament, making it all the way to the title match before losing to No. 23 Iowa State.
West Virginia will turn to Jevon Carter to lead them to an upset victory over March Madness betting favorite Gonzaga. Carter is currently putting up 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per outing. Second in points for the Mountaineers is Esa Ahmad who is averaging 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per matchup.
