Jacksonville State Gamecocks

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks blew away their competition by winning as much as 70 points against the Brescia Bearcats. It was a chance for some Gamecocks to see some action and gain more confidence as they move forward in the tournament. We saw Elias Garden being flawless from the field and finished with 19 points. Playing only 14 minutes each in that game, Kayne Henry and Martin Roub showed what they can do scoring 19 and 18 points respectively. Against VCU, the Gamecocks need more than Henry and Roub doing well but the entire team needs to rally behind their backs to even come close to the VCU Rams.

Players to Watch: K. Henry (14.5 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.5 SPG), M. Roub (12 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 1 BPG), J. Cross (11 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 1 SPG)

VCU Rams

Three teams have fallen victims for the VCU Rams to open up the season. These are the LSU Tigers, North Texas Mean Green Eagles and St. Francis Red Flash. In their last game against LSU, Marcus Santos-Silva was a force in the paint with 17 points, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and two blocks. Di’Rante Jenkins and Marcus Evans each had 15 points while Isaac Van contributed with 11. The core of the Rams are already solid at this early point of the season and with Vann getting in the groove, Jacksonville State will have a hard time getting close to this team. Santos-Silva will be too much for the Gamecocks to handle alone with no player in their roster that can match up with him. Look for the Rams to try and finish this game early and let their bench players get some playing time and build their confidence.

Players to Watch: D. Jenkins (14.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 2.3 APG, 2.3 SPG), M. Santos-Silva (13.7 PPG, 12 RPG, 2.3 APG, 2.3 SPG), M. Evans (13.3 PPG, 1.7 RPG, 2.7 APG, 2 SPG).

Jacksonville State Gamecocks vs VCU Rams Betting Picks

It will be all VCU Rams in this game and Betting On College Basketball predicts that it will be a blowout victory against Jacksonville State. The Rams should go to Marcus-Silva inside and have Jenkins and Evans ready to support him. On the other side, Kayne Henry is the player to watch but they have a lot of players that can match up with him. Expect the Rams to put multiple defenders on Henry to confuse the scorer and eventually pull away when it happens.
