NCAA Basketball Betting Odds:
The Cougars have looked great so far in tournament play. Their first round matchup against Georgia State resulted in an 84-55 blowout win. Afterwards Houston delivered another blowout against Ohio State 74-59. So will they be able to give UK a run for their money tonight? Surprisingly the odds think they’ll be able to, seeing how even the odds and how low the spread is for this evening’s matchup. Looking over the numbers, it’s clear that Houston has an edge on defense.
After all, Kentucky is giving up 64.5 per game while the Cougars are only allotting 60.8. Offensively things are much more even with Houston scoring 76.3 per game and Kentucky putting up 76.4. However, in terms of experience Houston is clearly outclassed here. This is because Kentucky will be vying to make their 7th Elite Eight appearance since 2010. The Cougars on the other hand, haven’t been in this arena in quite some time.
Players to Watch: Corey Davis Jr. (17.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.8 apg), Armoni Brooks (13.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 0.9 apg), and Dejon Jarreau (8.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.4 apg).
The Wildcats haven’t really made a splash yet in tournament play. However, that hasn’t stopped Reid Travis from doing so, who is putting up 16 points and 10 rebounds in his first two tournament outings. On top of that, Travis is shooting 50 percent or better from the field. Undoubtedly Kentucky will be looking to get the most out of Reid this evening in order to make the Elite Eight. Despite the fact that Kentucky is pegged as the favorite here, there’s no guarantee they get this win. Indeed this has more to do with Houston’s success as an underdog (they’re 8-1 ATS in their last 9 as an underdog, than Kentucky’s lack of success as a favorite.
Players to Watch: PJ Washington (14.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.9 apg), Tyler Herro (14.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.4 apg), and Keldon Johnson (13.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.5 apg).
