Golden Eagles Looking For 2nd NCAA Betting Upset

Villanova vs Marquette

As the NCAA betting community prepares for Tuesday night’s round of action, most eyes will turn their attention to sportsbook favorites Villanova as they try to maintain their No. 1 seeding against a team that largely pales in comparison. The Marquette Golden Eagles will be tasked with facing the nation’s top ranking team and while the Eagles may be optimistic, the bookmakers certainly don’t share that sentiment.

Villanova Wildcats                 -5 (-105)          151½ (-110)    -230|
Marquette Golden Eagles       +5 (-115)         151½ (-110)    +190

Those who bet on NCAA basketball games will be in agreement with the sportsbooks decision to favor the Wildcats.  Last season the Wildcats delivered what is ubiquitously considered to be the most dominant tournament championship run in NCAA history. Villanova had to overcome four top-three seeds on their path to securing a national title and this year’s squad is poised to deliver another breathtaking finale.

The Wildcats will be coming into this matchup with an impressive 19-1 record that includes a 7-1 record in Big East play. Earlier this season the Wildcats had their 20-game win streak (stretching back to last year) snapped by then No. 18 ranked Butler. However, the slight misstep was not enough to hinder the Wildcats’ sportsbook chances, and sure enough Villanova was able to bounce back the very next game and mount another win streak. The Wildcats come into this match with a 4-game win streak that further displays how dangerous this team truly is. With that in mind, can an unranked team actually pose a threat to the ascendant Wildcats?

Considering that this past Monday night the 14-30 Miami Heat were able to surpass the 38-6 Golden State Warriors, it would seem ill-advised to rule out the Golden Eagles. Marquette has fought their way to a 13-6 record including a 4-3 record in conference play that ranks them 4th in the Big East. Marquette will be coming off their most recent 102-94 victory over then No. 7 Creighton Bluejays so needless to say the Golden Eagles will be looking to follow an impressive NCAA betting with one even more jaw-dropping.

The Wildcats will be led by Josh Hart who is averaging 19.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.5 rebounds per game on an average of 33 minutes playing time. Kris Jenkins is Villanova’s 2nd leading point scorer who is averaging 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per contest. Third on the team is Jalen Brunson who is netting 13.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per contest. Overall the Wildcats are averaging 79 points per game and are allowing 63.6 points.

The Golden Eagles are led by Jajuan Johnson who is scoring 13 points per game as well as earning 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per outing. Second in scoring is Markus Howard and his average of 12.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest. Additionally, Luke Fischer is Marquette’s 3rd leading scorer as he is averaging 11.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. Overall the golden Eagles score 84.6 points per game and are allowing 74.1 points.
