Eastern Kentucky Colonels
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels are off to a good start with Houston King leading the scoring charge during their opening game against the Chattanooga Mocs, 79-68. King had 19 points and sank 4 out of 5 threes in that game. Darius Hicks was dominant with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Jomaru Brown added 14 points in the game. The team shot 42% from the three-point line and 52% from the field. However, they were more careless with the basketball compared to their opponents with 24 turnovers, 7 of which came from King himself. They were a better rebounding team with Hicks manning the paint. It will be interesting who steps up aside from Jomaru Brown because they will need a lot of luck going up against the Wildcats on their home floor.
Players to Watch: Houston King (19 Pts, 4/5 3 PM and 3 RBS), Darius Hicks (18 PTS and 12 RBS), Jomaru Brown (14 PTS and 2 RBS)
The Wildcats were tested early on against the Michigan State Spartans and won by just seven points, 69-62. Their defense was on cue and was one of the reasons they won the game. They forced Michigan State to commit 15 turnovers while they only had 10. Tyrese Maxey seemed destined to be in the NBA and his 26 points on opening night was a statement that he will carry this team. He also grabbed five boards and sank 3 threes. He got help from Ashton Hagans who had 11 points while Quickley added 10 points and five boards. Maxey would love to showcase his skills in front of their home crowd for the first time this season and expect him to give his repertoire of moves against Eastern Kentucky.
Players to Watch: Tyrese Maxey (26 PTS, 5 RBS and 3 3 PM), Ashton Hagans (11 PTS and 3 RBS) Immanuel Quickley (10 PTS and 5 RBS).
