Cornell Big Red
It has been tough for Cornell Big Red for the past two games after winning their opening match. Jimmy Boeheim was phenomenal against the Binghamton Bearcats finishing with 24 points, five rebounds and four assists. He followed it up with another 20-point night but they lost. His third game did not progress as he was just held to five points. Terrence McBride has been the most consistent player for the Big Red averaging 15 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals. But clearly, McBride cannot lead the team as compared to Boeheim. Josh Warrens has been stepping up as well and was serviceable inside with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and a block per night. Now, Cornell needs a wrecking ball to get through DePaul but they don’t seem to have the tools to do it.
Players to Watch: J. Boeheim (16.3 PPG, 5 RPG, 2 APG, 1 SPG, 1 BPG), T. McBride (15 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 3.7 APG, 2.7 SPG), J. Warren (14 PPG, 8 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1 BPG).
DePaul Blue Demons
Paul Reed just had his best game of the season against Iowa with 25 points. 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks. He took over when Charlie Moore had a subpar night who just had 8 points in 17 minutes. This season, Reed had been averaging a double-double with 14.8 points and 10.3 boards per match. But this is still Moore’s team as he leads the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game. Jaylen Butz had given the team a much-needed boost with 11 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2 steals per game. A good sign for the team is seeing Jalen Coleman-Lands come out with a 17-point night which makes their team deeper.
Overall, the depth of the Blue Demons can really create damage and they can afford to have players to have an off night. This alone makes them the runaway favorite to take this game by a mile from Cornell.
Players to Watch: C. Moore (16.5 PPG, 2 RPG, 4.5 APG), P. Reed (14.8 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 1.8 APG) 2 SPG, 2 BPG), J. Butz (11 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 2 SPG, 1 BPG).
