For those March Madness betting fans who are unfamiliar with the event, the collegeinsider.com tournament (CIT) is a men’s college basketball tournament founded in 2009 and held annually by the sports website. The event is aimed to offer postseason competition to any mid-major schools who were unable to qualify for the NCAA or NIT tournaments.
The opening rounds of the CIT tournament will feature a variety of matchups and Monday’s round of action brings with it an interesting contest between the Norfolk State Spartans and the Liberty Flames.

Coming off a season that saw the program post a 19-13 record, the Liberty Flames were able to turn things around a delivered a 19-13 record this season, that includes a 14-4 record in Big South play. However, the Flames’ run in the Big South was stopped short by lower-seeded Radford on March 2nd. Furthermore, Liberty has lost three out of their last 4 games.
The sportsbook favorites will turn to leading point-scorer Ryan Kemrite to lead them Monday night. Kemrite is averaging 13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. Second in points for the Flames is Caleb Homesley who is netting 12.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per contest.
Norfolk St. Spartans
Norfolk enters this contest as the sportsbook underdog and will be looking to improve on their current 17-16 record. With their bid into this year’s CIT tournament, the Spartans are the sole Division I HBCU with a current six-year postseason-appearance streak. However, Norfolk fell short against North Carolina Central in the MEAC’s tournament championship game. Had they won the Spartans would be competing in the NCAA Tournament and not the CIT.
The Spartans will turn to Jonathan Wade, who is averaging 19.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game, to lead them against Liberty. Second in points for Norfolk is Zaynah Robinson who is draining 13.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.
